AI and Music: The Perfect Duo for the Future?

AI and Music: The Perfect Duo for the Future?

Recently, I came across a discussion on how AI is affecting the music industry, and I noticed that some people think that AI-generated music will destroy the market or that it will never match the quality of artist-made music. In my opinion, this belief is flawed. Why? Well, let's take a trip down memory lane.

Who can forget the rise of drum machines in the 80s, the use of autotune in the 2000s or the development of synthesizers? These are just a few examples of how technology has been reshaping the music industry for decades. Although some were skeptical and even resistant to these changes, they ultimately led to creative breakthroughs that made the music industry what it is today - the best industry.

It's essential to embrace technology and its disruptions, even if they cause a bit of chaos initially. In the 2000s, Garageband brought competitive recording to everyone with a computer, and in the 2010s, distribution became accessible for anyone to share their art with the world. With the advent of AI-generated music, we have the potential to unlock new creative possibilities that were once impossible.

It's highly unlikely that people will go back to the old ways, except if we are talking about trends such as owning vinyl or cassette. We need to focus on the future and look forward to the next creative boom and breakthroughs that technology will bring. Imagine being able to produce a record by just signing a melody, or being able to collaborate with an AI-generated backing track that responds to your request.

In conclusion, AI-generated music is not something that will disappear, and we cannot turn back the clock on technological advances. Instead, we need to embrace it, leverage it, and license it to create a better and more innovative music industry. Let's prepare ourselves for the next boom and creative breakthroughs that will take the music industry to even greater heights! So, don't be afraid of AI-generated music - it's just the next chapter in the long history of technological progress in music.

Looking back at industries and governments' lack of readiness for the internet's emergence, we can learn from past experiences and get ready for the potential revolution that AI-generated music and other technologies might bring. The key is to remain open-minded, stay informed, and adapt to the changing landscape of the music industry.

Thanks for the article, Edouard Taieb. I definitely lean towards embracing, as long as it doesn't deteriorate the integrity and artistry of music... As for deepfakes, if the artist or estate is on board – why not! 🧐
