AIDS Prevention Agency: A Public Service Announcement (PSA)-Project by Tom Rogers Muyunga-Mukasa
There comes a time when you face off with a reality in your life. You feel overwhelmed by possibilities, vulnerabilities, risks and counter risk intuition.
On one hand you feel aimless, counting the hours or days and on another you feel drifting off solely at the mercy of whim, wishes and winds prevailing in your life.
The many wishes include a Ford Charger parked in the garage, a stable job, castles, dining tables brimming with food, cabinets filled with all sorts of clothes and your rent paid years ahead.
Your love life has a high voltage spark and your partner is a warm, cuddly and cordial person but both of you are drifting by on instinct and visceral switches.
Both of you have never set aside time to talk about AIDS Prevention in your love life.
Take control of your sexual-health life. Move it in a direction that you want to it to go.
This is what the concept of AIDS Prevention Agency is about.
Agency is the sense of what one can do and what one thinks one can do. It is the power to engage, direct and affect one’s future. Agency creates. Pro-creates as it were.

Agency taps into your sense of self, recognition, awareness, identity, interests, plans, self-care, and facilitates the actions necessary to execute actions whose expected outcomes fulfil your life.
Make the decision to plan for better life outcomes.
This is the basis of self-determination. Self-determination is rooted in an abundance of motive and opportunity. The motivation for self-preservation and the opportunity for self-efficacy are key influencers for anyone seeking better life outcomes.
But we all have to be deliberate, intentional, think through the consequences and own the actions.
Do not let HIV win.
If you are living with HIV, seek bio-medical and social support because they go hand-in-hand. If you are not living with HIV, lead a life that protects you against HIV. If you are sexually active, lead a life where both you and the partner talk about AIDS prevention like you talk about who is to do which chore at your house. Make AIDS Prevention part of your daily plans.
In the next PSA episode we shall talk about the AIDS Prevention Autonomy.
