Air India to hire thousands of cabin crew & pilots

Tata Group owned Air India Limited is on the lookout for over 4,200 cabin crew & 900 pilots in 2023 after placing the largest order for aircrafts in aviation history

The airline just placed an order of 470 jets earlier this month from European plane maker Airbus & its American rival Boeing . Air India also leased aircrafts as well, & has an option to purchase even more if required

The overhaul at Air India began after it returned it returned to the Tata Group’s fold last year, after a hiatus of 68 years. The massive order of airplanes indicates the Tata Group has a strategic plan for the carrier’s revival & is seeking to repair its reputation that declined in the mid 2000’s as financial troubles mounted

The airline has already recruited over 1,900 cabin crew between May 2022 & February 2023 & intends to capitalise on India’s growing base of flyers & recent strong demand for air travel

The airline has two subsidiaries Air India Express & Air Asia Company Limited , as well as a joint venture with Singapore based Vistara - TATA SIA Airlines Ltd. . Together these subsidiaries & joint venture have 1,450 pilots. Air India by itself has another 1,600 pilots

"The cabin crew will be recruited from India & will undergo a 15-week programme imparting safety and service skills & will be coached to exemplify the best of Indian hospitality & Tata group culture. The training program will include extensive classroom and in-flight training at the airline’s training facility in Mumbai as well as familiarisation flights" the airline said in a statement
