All About Red Sea Souk's "Project Market" and "WIP Showcase"
The development and post-production phases are arguably two of the most important parts of the filmmaking process. The development phase is where the ideas for your movie first start to emerge, where the first seed is planted, where your film is born. Following the development phase is the production phase, where a film first starts to take shape, where a number of people come together to help filmmakers realize their fully-formed vision, where a movie begins to come to life.
On the other hand, the post-production process is where a film fully comes together, where it lives or dies, where it fully transforms into a work of art that is ready to be viewed and perceived by audiences on a global scale. A lot can go either right or wrong throughout the filmmaking process, so it is incredibly important for filmmakers to ensure that everything goes right without fail to make sure that their film is in the best shape possible.
In order to help filmmakers ensure that everything goes as smoothly as possible during both phases and to help them find passionate partners who will help them realize their dream, #RedSeaSouk is hosting the “PROJECT MARKET” and “WIP SHOWCASE” programs that will run alongside the Red Sea Film Festival's 2023 edition, taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from December 2-5.
The Project Market will showcase a selection of ten to twelve projects in development or in production, while the WIP Showcase will showcase a selection of five to six films in post-production. Both programs are open to all filmmakers of Arab or African nationality/origin.

24 projects in development and production will be selected to partake in the Project Market. This selection will be comprised of 12 Red Sea Lodge projects by Saudi and Arab directors, and 12 Souk projects by African and Arab directors. All selected projects will be presented to the Red Sea Souk industry guests in a series of pitching and video pitch presentation sessions in the presence of the director, producers and the rest of the filmmaking team. These programs will help filmmakers find funding to finish the rest of their film, as well as chances of distribution for their finished films later along the line.
Our goal with these initiatives is to uplift MENA voices on an international scale by giving them a platform to showcase their work, and to eventually find partners in production and distribution to help them fully fulfill their vision and bring their projects to completion. This initiative is in line with the #RedSeaFilmFoundation’s commitment to uplifting and nurturing underrepresented talents and voices. As leaders in the local film industry, we aim to not only create opportunities for emerging filmmakers but also to provide them with resources necessary to launch their films into the world.
The deadline for both of these initiatives is fast approaching (August 18, to be exact) so please submit your film before it is too late. Please visit our website for more information.
