Alleviating Annoyance in Society

Habitual annoyance has become synonymous with basic human nature in today's world. People get instantly annoyed at every failure, disappointment or delay. This appears to be an emotional outlet which does not focus on the root cause of the issue but serves as a diversion from the mainstream. Normally, the person getting irritated does not get bottled up with sadness but converts into an outrage on others as well. There seems to be no exceptions to this practice - Parents on children, between spouses, amongst politicians, Bosses on Juniors and even within the friends circle. It is a pernicious trend with annoyance leading to blame games, inaction, depressive behaviour and vitiated atmosphere. Let us analyze the three basic reasons which cause large-scale frustration in people.

1)  Others try to force their ideas, opinions or solutions which are not in sync with your thinking. These are liberally mingled with authority, dominance and criticism. One gets enfeebled with the volley of admonitions which makes a person directionless. In the working environment, this leads to criticism of every action, blame for every failure and one is made accountable without any authority. The obvious result is the person at the receiving end becomes exasperated and ineffective.

2) Secondly, annoyance creeps in when one's own ideas or plans have faced a huge failure. Many get disheartened quickly and lose their emotional balance. Failure is a teacher but some people become too frustrated to realize this universal truth. Faster the recovery from this emotional tangle, better would be the next improved attempt with careful planning. Some people are averse to taking help or guidance from others, which is crucial after a failure. This is a drawback and people need to be open about seeking help, opinions and revising plans to make them failure-proof.

3) Lastly, frustration sets in when the person is clueless about the direction he should take and is totally bereft of ideas to make progress. This confused state was faced by Arjun in Mahabharat when he took the wise counsel of Lord Krishna to come out of his bewilderment. This is the ideal step to be taken in such a quagmire and people should consult able mentors with domain expertise for pragmatic advice. The significance of mentors and Gurus in personal, professional and spiritual lives is immense and people should identify them early to seek clarity in objectives, direction and efforts.

Negative emotions are an inextricable part of human lives in the present turbulent world. We are just ordinary mortals and not sages or ascetics to remain immune to such impacts. But the success lies in how quickly one regains his composure and modifies his approach to effectively deliver results. Mentors play a preeminent role in shaping and guiding our lives to lead us out of darkness.

Very nice article. Not easy for everyone to get a mentor like Krishna and there lies a problem.
