America's Healthcare System: It's Time to Get Angry!

We are in BIG Trouble, but together, we can do something about it.

The latest CMS estimates of healthcare spending predict an increase in the rate of growth of healthcare spending versus the past 8 years. An increase! When does it end? Answer: It ends in 2018, if you’ll get angry with me.

Now that the numbers are in, it appears we hit 18% of GDP in 2017, and that’s set to rise to 19.7% by 2026. Does that make you angry? It should!

Seniors are currently spending more than 41% of their Social Security checks on healthcare, which is expected to rise to 50%. Does that make all of the seniors out there angry? How about the rest of us who are getting there faster than we'd like. It sure makes me angry.

Ben Franklin once famously said, “Justice will not be served until those who are un-afflicted become as angry as those who are.”

Well, you may not be feeling exceedingly afflicted today, but I'm sure you know someone who is. And it's time for all of us to get angry. Until we do, nothing is going to change. And if we don’t alter the trajectory of our healthcare system, it’s going to eventually bankrupt us all.

We had a great rehearing before the Title Board today. All objections were denied. Now the opposition has 7-days to appeal to Colorado's Supreme Court, which they’ve let us know they intend to do. We still do not know who is really behind the process of filing these legal objections. We have our suspicions, but they don’t have to tell us. If you want to read the text of the measure, you'll find it here.

We took a big step forward today and we’re getting closer and closer every day to to needing your help—and your signature—and to ensuring our nation-changing legislation passes in November. Please visit www.brokenhealthcare.org and volunteer to get involved, contribute money (this is an expensive endeavor) or just voice your support here on Linked-in.

And since there is no “I’m angry” button here (Linked-in, please create one), if you’re starting to get angry, please hit the “like” button. We’ll know what you mean...

Health Care costs can be reduced but this cannot be legislated. There many component: improving the delivery through Lean transformation like work started by U of MI, ThedaCare and Virginia Mason. Changing healthcare delivery like Cummins and others with on site service and wellness programs. Smaller facilities are frequently more efficient and safer than hospitals, cybercare and other internet applications. Incentive programs for prevention in place of fix it medicine. Then a key component is having patients focus on healthy lifestyles and following physician’s treatment plans.

David, Getting angry and pointing fingers is the easiest thing in the world and solves nothing. This is a problem we created ourselves and the only way to solve it is to change our (collective) habits. As my dear friend Dr. Joan Salge Blake, is fond of saying: "We can cut our healthcare costs with a knife and a fork" Fully agree! Here is my take on it as well: http://bit.ly/2jFkYY0 Bon appetit..--bb #brokenhealthcare #healthcarecosts #obamacare #bigpharma #diabetes #obesity #diets
