Amplify Agency

Special Friday Edition

Hey there,

I am assuming that if you are reading my work, you are interested in personal growth and living life on your terms – the foundation of why I created Possibility in Action®. Glad to have you here. My mission is dead simple: to empower people to remove the unnecessary, shift their identity, dismantle limiting beliefs, and strengthen their mindset to intentionally rewrite their life narrative. Enjoy today’s newsletter.

I can’t deny it – living in Italy is truly amazing!

Trust me, I recognize how fortunate I am. Not solely because I live here, but more so because I've learned to pursue my dreams, thanks to a myriad of life lessons that stretch back to my earliest memories I learned how to amplify my agency by embracing different aspects of who I am and who I want to become. If I can, we all can!

One aspect of Italy that never fails to captivate me is the abundance of charming festivals that unexpectedly sprout up in the communal parks. OMG, “sprout up” is such an Italian phrase translated into English, haha. I recall one such occasion when the joyful laughter of children lured me to a “first” in my life.

Before long, following the oohs and ahhs, I found myself amidst a lively scene, with vendors selling balloons of every imaginable shape and size. And there, amidst this lively atmosphere, stood a makeshift stage, decorated with vibrant banners and an array of colorful balloons. It was a marionette show.

The stage came alive with an enchanting cast of characters, each intricately crafted from wood and string. These marionettes danced and twirled, brought to life by the skillful hands of their puppeteers.

Sounds like a lot of fun, doesn't it?

Yet, consider this: what if, like those puppets, your life is influenced by unseen forces, directing you along a path that isn't truly your own?

What if those wooden figures symbolize a life devoid of agency?

Just as the puppeteer dictates the fate of his marionettes, we too can find ourselves at the mercy of external influences that shape our thoughts, beliefs, and actions when we lack agency.

Society, culture, and circumstance all exert their influence, pulling our strings and guiding us down a path that may not align with our deepest desires and aspirations.

In response to such a notion, I would emphatically declare, “f*ck no!” In fact, I have, and that is what I am inviting you to do. We are a week away from the launch of the F*ck This Project.

What is Agency?

Agency is, hmm, a combination of a chisel, flashlight, and machete, illuminating our path, guiding us forward, helping us overcome obstacles, and empowering us to take bold risks in pursuit of the life we want to live before we die.

At its core, agency is about recognizing that we are the architects of our own reality. It's about taking ownership of our thoughts, our actions, and our circumstances, and refusing to be those marionettes which danced due to the hands of their puppeteers.

Consider, for a moment, the very existence of this new blog. In launching F*ck This, I knew I was taking a significant risk. I understood it would be seen as a departure from Possibility in Action®, and my established reputation. Hint, hint – it is far from a departure, it is one of the cogs of action.

But here's the thing: Agency enables us to take desired risks constructively. It has empowered me throughout my life to say “f*ck this" to the fear of failure, rejection, and stepping outside my comfort zone. I wouldn't be in Italy if it weren't for this crucial element in the philosophy of living as Possibility in Action®.

Now, stay with me and remain open, because I know this mindset, when called upon, can provide you, as well, with the confidence to trust in your vision, follow your intuition, and pursue your passions.

Amplify Agency Without Anger

It's crucial to understand that Agency isn't about succumbing to anger or frustration; rather, it's about embracing empowerment and personal responsibility to change one's circumstances proactively and constructively.

Anger, while a powerful emotion, often stems from a sense of powerlessness or injustice. It can cloud our judgment, fuel destructive behaviors, and ultimately hinder our ability to effect meaningful change. That’s a sh*tty way to live.

The truth is, when we allow anger to dictate our actions, we relinquish control, becoming mere reactors to external stimuli rather than proactive agents of our own destiny.

Let’s move away from being reactive!

By adopting the mindset of F*ck This, we reclaim our power to shape our own destinies. We no longer passively accept life happening to us, but rather, embrace it as happening for us.

Only then can we channel our frustrations into fuel for change, leveraging our agency to carve out a path that aligns with our deepest desires and aspirations. It's a declaration of autonomy, a refusal to be shackled by circumstances. It’s about wrestling that which is under our control.

F*ck This is the embodiment of agency in its purest form. It's about saying "no" to anything that doesn't align with our highest vision for ourselves and saying "yes" to the life we want to live.

Where Can You Discover Agency?

Uncovering personal agency is a journey of self-discovery and awareness, allowing you to embrace who you are, who you want to be, and all of your emotions – from frustration to fulfillment, and everything in between.

However, what I've come to realize is that it's fueled by:

  • Levity: Laugh your a** off. Cultivating the ability to chuckle at life's challenges makes it much more manageable, and bonus – it also neutralizes feelings of anger.
  • Vulnerability: Embracing vulnerability demands bravery – the bravery to reveal yourself authentically, to be heard and seen for who you are – no masks or game playing.
  • Self-Trust: Having faith in yourself empowers you to make decisions in line with your values, take bold leaps, and navigate challenges with confidence, grit, and resilience.
  • Surrender: Surrendering allows you to shed the unnecessary to concentrate on what's under your control.
  • Growth Mindset: Embracing a growth mindset shifts your perspective to see challenges as opportunities for learning and development.

The Challenge

Levity, in my opinion, is the most powerful facet of Agency to hone. It is also a core aspect of this newsletter. Some might find saying f*ck this offensive. If one looks past their triggers, is it all really that serious? In our context, can it spark a giggle?

Find something in your life that is weighing on you. Find ways to make fun of it, laugh at it, and then, when you feel it is a bit emotionally detached – revisit it and ask:

What is under my control in this moment?

What is one small step I can take to change this situation or my relationship with it?
