🟢 Laboratorio Paul: Tacrolimus, from Laboratorio Paul Argentina, offers effective treatment for dry keratoconjunctivitis. It is an immunomodulator and tear production stimulant for dry keratoconjunctivitis in companion animals. Tacrolimus was incorporated into veterinary ophthalmology as an immunosuppressant and substitute for cyclosporine, and is currently used as a last resort in KCS. 🟢 MSD Animal Health: MSD Animal Health Peru has launched the country’s first annual injectable preventive treatment against fleas, ticks, and mites. Thanks to a unique formula containing fluralaner as the active ingredient (an isoxazoline with potent acaricidal and insecticidal activity), this parasiticide is gradually absorbed at the injection site, providing up to 12 months of efficacy. 🟢 Jorgensen Laboratories, LLC: Jorgensen Laboratories, LLC, announced the acquisition of all assets of Vetlabs, also known as Southeast Vetlabs. This acquisition enhances Jorgensen Labs' product portfolio with several unique products, including the chromogenic specialty media plates for uterine culture in mares. 🟢 Ourofino Saúde Animal: Brazil develops the first single-dose vaccine against Glässer’s disease. Ourofino Saúde Animal, the largest animal health company in Brazil, developed the vaccine after 11 years of research. Brazilian scientists have developed the world’s first single-dose vaccine against Glässer’s disease, one of the main causes of mortality, reduced performance, and antibiotic use in pig farms. According to Finep (Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos), linked to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the causative bacteria can be classified into 15 different serovars, but non-typable strains are often found. In Brazil, highly pathogenic strains are found, and different serovars can be present on the same farm, generating complex mixed infections that can vary from animal to animal. 🟢 Animal Health Brazil: The animal health sector is expected to grow by 9% annually until 2027 in Brazil. A study indicates that the sector's growth will drive mergers and acquisitions activities in Brazil; the country is among the world’s leading animal protein producers and has the world's largest cattle herd. The animal health sector is expected to grow by an average of 9% per year, reaching approximately R$ 15.3 billion by the end of 2027. This economic modeling was conducted by Redirection International, a consultancy specializing in mergers & acquisitions (M&A), analyzing market data and macroeconomic variables for the period. Last year, the sector's revenue was R$ 10.79 billion, according to information from the National Union of Animal Health Products Industry (Sindan). According to the latest survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in 2022, Brazil had the largest cattle herd in the world, with approximately 234 million head of cattle. The country is also the second-largest global poultry producer, behind only the United States, with an annual production of 14.8 million tons of chicken, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). 🟢 Eco Animal Health Group Plc (AIM ): Eco Animal Health Group reported underlying profits ahead of expectations as sales in the US and the rest of the Americas continued to grow strongly. Group sales at the animal antibiotic and vaccines group increased by 5% to £89.4 million in the year to the end of March 2024, though at constant currency were up by 11% to £94.5 million. North American sales were up by 22% to £19.5 million, and Latin America by 10% ahead at £19.9 million, while China dropped 6% to £24.7 million. (tipranks.com, Aug. 23th).
🟢 CDV Argentina: CDV Argentina invests U$S 4 million in a new brucellosis vaccine plant in Argentina. CDV Laboratory announced the opening of its new plant dedicated exclusively to the production of brucellosis vaccines in the Industrial Park of Pilar. The facilities include two completely independent production areas for the two different types of Brucella strains, strain 19 and strain RB51: a quality control laboratory and a service area. They expect to continue growing and achieve a 35% market share. Of the total production, 70% will be destined for international trade, mainly to Latin American, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries. 🟢 Biogénesis Bagó: Biogénesis Bagó was present at the 15th SIRAC (Cordoba Reproduction Symposium) at the Córdoba Capital Convention Center with new solutions for productivity. At the animal reproduction symposium, Biogénesis Bagó presented the new Ecegon RTU, a tool that optimizes work during the implementation of synchronization protocols for TAI (Timed Artificial Insemination).
🟢 UK The Nutriment Company (TNC): The Nutriment Company (TNC) has made its third UK acquisition of the year after purchasing Pet Treats Wholesale, a UK-based manufacturer of natural dog treats and chews. 🟢 Trupanion, Inc.: Trupanion, Inc. announced financial results for the second quarter of 2024. Total revenue was $315 million, an increase of 16% compared to the second quarter of 2023. 🟢 Trupanion, Inc.: In partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and leading pet industry partners, Trupanion, Inc. announced the formation of a collaborative Advisory Board to launch a Pet & Public Health Early Warning & Detection System. The Advisory Board will also be joined by Boehringer Ingelheim, Mars Science & Diagnostics, and other leading pet, public health, and animal health authorities. The Early Warning & Detection System will be centered around Trupanion’s patented Veterinary Portal technology, which is already active in over 10,000 veterinary hospitals in North America and expanding globally. This technology will serve as a link to finding and analyzing signs of illness and health patterns in dogs and cats across breed, age, geography, and more. (Source: Company press release)

🟢 Norbrook Laboratories Ltd.: Felanorm, the first generic methimazole oral solution to treat feline hyperthyroidism, has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval. The Norbrook Laboratories prescription medication contains the same active ingredient as Felimazole Coated Tablets, a Dechra Veterinary Products drug first approved in 2009. Felanorm contains 5 milligrams of methimazole per 1 milliliter of solution. Norbrook Laboratories conducted an in vivo blood-level study of 32 healthy fasted cats to determine whether 5 milligrams of the oral solution is bioequivalent to 5-milligram Felimazole Coated Tablets. Each cat randomly received one of the drugs. The study concluded that the generic oral solution was bioequivalent. No serious adverse effects were reported. Felanorm is available in 30- and 100-milliliter bottles and has a starting dose of 2.5 milligrams every 12 hours. (Source: Todaysveterinarybusiness.com, July)

🟢 CANADA: dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition and Health announced the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has approved a novel enzyme, fumonisin esterase, to help swine and poultry producers manage mycotoxins in feed. dsm-firmenich will offer a new product which includes the fumonisin esterase called Mycofix FUMzyme for use in swine and poultry diets in Canada. According to the company, it will be the first product ever to be approved for degrading fumonisins in feed in the Canadian market. (Source: Feedstuffs)
🟢 Vetoquinol: The 10th World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology in Boston attracted hundreds of veterinary dermatologists to the symposium organized by Vetoquinol: 'Harnessing Fluorescent Light Energy (FLE) to Promote Antimicrobial Stewardship and Wound Healing in Veterinary Dermatology.' During this symposium, Luisa Cornegliani, DVM, DECVD PhD, Amelia White, DVM, MS, DACVD, and Anthony Yu, DVM, MS, DACVD, shared their latest research and clinical insights on the application of FLE in clinical practice and its relation to reducing antimicrobial use.
