Another American School Shooting

School Shootings

Well, I have tried to contact those in government with some ideas as well as others who could be involved but it has fallen on deaf ears as usual. I feel that I have a unique yet practical way of solving at least to some extent the issue. Useless though unless implemented.

This is no simple situation no. It is a multidepartment effort yes. But it can be done with more common sense as well. This must extend to a system that is local, county, state and federal working together.

We need a new system. A system in the schools that is clearly in place for everyone's sake. Students as well as possibly staff must be monitored for those mental health issues that often lead to this type of incidents. Not only for that but also to help those in need of help, reduce dropout rates, failures in education to those who need it most. A monitoring system of checks and balances for the best assistance and outcome for all students and staff. Once an individual has been identified as a possible problem, there must be a referral system in place in order to isolate this person and investigate it further. This must also be done in a proper way as not to hurt the student or staff member or display them as a possible threat to others. This, of course, may require a changing of laws on some level or levels.

A system that doesn't punish them for their problems but instead offers the help they need to overcome such issues. These issues exist for a number of reasons but regardless of that must be dealt with.

The school physically.

Bulletproof windows and doors on a minimum of the first floors. Locked doors for all entrance and exits monitored by staff but should be limited to the number of doors available. Metal detectors of course and searchable for any detection. No bags larger than a backpack "ever" without being searched. Cameras inside and out of all access points. Monitored at all times as well as cameras in the hallways and main gathering areas.

All interior doors connected to the main station, most likely the same camera monitoring station and another panel in the main office. This would have an emergency lockdown button that would lock all doors, doors that must also be bulletproof and the glass in them as well as any other windows having access to the hallways. On the inside of the classrooms etc, would be an emergency release to enable those inside to get out only if clear of course. If there are cameras also in each hallway, any shooter or threat could be located quickly.

Arming of staff is, in fact, a good idea but only of course with proper training. and scheduled retraining on a consistent basis. For those out there who are just opposed to staff carrying around an exposed weapon, let's put that weapon in a lock box which can or not be carried around and only opened by the assigned staff member.

On the overall issue of age to buy assault type weapons. IT is not so difficult.

I feel on a personal level that no one under the age of 18 should be allowed to buy these or even other weapons, UNLESS, they are indeed in the military and can show proof and is proven in a background check. This tact would also make parents more responsible for keeping a check on the weapons they have at home.

Another possible avenue could be that they can't buy assault-style weapons period if under the age of 21 and other purchases under 21 should be with a parent or guardian co-signing with them. Of course, all background checks must be followed.

The entire system of gun purchases should/must have access to a central system which would INCLUDE mental health issues, however, this is ground that must be done very carefully and specifically so as not to punish someone for example that simply has some depression or anxiety or other conditions that really may only be temporary or in an area of something that is actually not a threat to others or themselves.

Nationally as well as internationally, it should be the case that not ONE of us all anywhere should allow or stand for anything that harms or kills children. The theme should always be "Harm No Child". Period. If there is, then we should up in outrage and fight to make it so.

While this does not include everything I have in mind, this is a broad overview of what I see should be done, just my view.

This episode will never end, until the US Government gets touch on gun ownership, as well as the use of illegal firearms by its citizens.
