ARB & GUD: OEMs take different approaches to 4WD accessories

Field Research has connected a number of institutional investors with industry leaders re the auto aftermarket sector, ie ARB and GUD etc, in recent weeks.

One of the key topics investigated is the advantages to scaled players such as ARB and GUD of having deep relationships with vehicle manufacturers (OEMs).

It's worth noting that OEMs differ markedly when it comes to their interaction with accessory providers particularly in the 4WD space.

They range from Nissan which makes its own bullbars to the new Land Rover Ineos pictured above.

The makers of the Ineos say they are taking an "open source" approach to interaction with accessory providers - ie they don't want to "ring fence" buyers into their own ecosystem of preferred providers. It's an innovative approach and one that is no doubt welcomed by niche accessory makers.
