The Art of Burning Karma
I always struggled with calculus despite having good teachers and being educated in a wealthy family. Some may dismiss this as genetics while others may say I am lazy. However, when I started hearing lectures on the topic of Karma, I gradually understood the process and the logic of Karma. May people struggle in marriages, mother-in-law problems, daughter-in-law problems, business failure, legal issues, etc.
…At one time, Indra, the king of heaven, committed an offense at the feet of his spiritual master, and his spiritual master cursed him to take the birth of a hog(pig). Thus the throne of the heavenly kingdom became empty as Indra went to earth to become a hog.
Seeing the situation, Brahma came to earth and addressed the hog: “My dear sir, you have become a hog on this planet earth. I have come to deliver you. Come with me at once.” But the hog replied:. “Oh I cannot go with you. I have so many responsibilities—my children, wife and this nice hog society.”
Even though Brahma promised to take him back to heaven, Indra, in the form of a hog, refused. This is called forgetfulness. Similarly, Lord Sri Krishna comes and says to us, “What are you doing in this material world? Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg. 18.66].
Come to Me, and I’ll give you all protection.” But we say, “I don’t believe You Sir. I have more important business here.” This is the position of the conditioned soul—forgetfulness. This forgetfulness is quickly dissipated by following in the path of disciplic succession.
We become so attached to our so-called material enjoyment, but what is this enjoyment? Our situation is not always so good, and there is birth, death, disease, and old age, but still we are attached; to my hog wife, my hog children, my hog pen. Lol, this seems to be our situation. [2]
Here is the how we the souls got entrapped in Karma
Karma seems stubbornly eternal. Yet it does not need to be. Laws of karma is you touch fire, your finger will be burned.
The Law of Karma – cause and effect [2]
Karma is the great law of “cause and effect”, of “action and reaction”, which controls the destiny of all living entities.
This great law functions on the principle, that any action performed produces an equal and opposite reaction, which directly influences our very existence.
Karma, like time and gravity, is a universal principle and every one is effected by its influence. While the law of physics applies to the interaction of material objects only, the law of karma however, applies to any action performed by living entities and governs the interrelations of all living beings. The state laws for example, are grossly observed; but the law of material nature [karma] being subtle to our gross understanding, cannot be experienced grossly or understood by mental speculation.
The law of karma states, that every action performed in life creates another reaction which in turn produces a new counter action. Thus an endless chain of actions and reactions is produced which binds the living entity to his good and bad deeds. This is the way how karma works. It creates an action and another reaction simultaneously and this increases the chain of material activities, keeping the performer in material bondage.
Śrī brahma-saṁhitā 5.54

I adore the primeval Lord Govinda, who burns up to their roots all fruitive activities of those who are imbued with devotion and impartially ordains for each the due enjoyment of the fruits of one's activities, of all those who walk in the path of work, in accordance with the chain of their previously performed works, no less in the case of the tiny insect that bears the name of indragopa than in that of Indra, king of the devas.

Beginning from ant, up to the Brahmā, everyone is bound up by the reaction of karma. Bhakti is the safest platform, because you do not produce any more karma. Whatever karma you have to act, it is finished in this life. Karmāṇi nirdahati kintu ca bhakti-bhājām (Bs. 5.54).
Bhagavad-gītā (4.17):
karmaṇo hy api boddhavyaṁ
boddhavyaṁ ca vikarmaṇaḥ
akarmaṇaś ca boddhavyaṁ
gahanā karmaṇo gatiḥ
The intricacies of action are very hard to understand. Therefore one should know properly what action is, what forbidden action is, and what inaction is.
Law of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.: One should understand the nature of karma, vikarma and akarma, and one must act accordingly.
The conditioned souls, who have come to this material world for sense gratification, are allowed to enjoy their senses under certain regulative principles. If they violate these regulations, they are judged and punished by Yamarāja. He brings them to the hellish planets and properly chastises them to bring them back to Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
Karma, akarma and vikarma are very clearly described in the Bhagavad-gītā. Actions that are performed in terms of one's prescribed duties, as mentioned in the revealed scriptures, are called karma.
Of these three types of action, that which frees one from the bondage to karma is preferred by intelligent men. Ordinary men wish to perform good work in order to be recognized and achieve some higher status of life in this world or in heaven, but more advanced men want to be free altogether from the actions and reactions of work. Intelligent men well know that both good and bad work equally bind one to the material miseries. Consequently they seek that work which will free them from the reactions of both good and bad work.
Karma of a Householder:
The karma of those, who work with the hope of enjoying the fruits of their labors, becomes everlasting and endless and is never destroyed.
Karma of a Sanyasa:
The function of sannyāsa is also a sort of karma befitting an āśrama and is not pleasant to Kṛṣṇa when it aims at liberation, i.e., desire for emancipation. They also receive fruition of their karma and, even if it be disinterested, their karma ends in ātma-mamatā, i.e., self-pleasure; but those who are pure devotees always serve Kṛṣṇa by gratifying His senses forsaking all attempts of karma and jñāna, and being free from all desires save that of serving Kṛṣṇa.
Karma of Bhaktas (devotees):
Kṛṣṇa has fully destroyed the karma, its desires and nescience of the devotees. It is a great wonder that Kṛṣṇa, being impartial, is fully partial to His devotees.
Role of mother Durga Devi:
Durga Devi's function is to keep rebellious souls firmly entrenched in the material world and suffer the tapatraya (three fold miseries caused by 1. one's own body and mind 2. Other living entities and 3. natural calamities like typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.). When one sincerely wishes to leave the material world and seek shelter of Mukunda (Krishna), the same Durga Devi will help the reformed soul in going back home to the eternal father Krishna.
Brahma-samhita (5.44) says,
sristhi-sthiti-pralaya-sadhana-shaktir eka chayeva yasya bhuvanani bibharti durga.
Maya is like a shadow of the Supreme Personality of Godhead who serves Him in the creation, maintenance and annihilation of this world. Just as a shadow has no independent power of movement but follows the substance that casts the shadow, the illusory energy of the Lord has no independent power, but bewilders the living entities according to the Lord's desire. One of Krishna's opulences is that He is supremely detached; when a living entity wants to forget Him, Krishna immediately employs His illusory energy to facilitate the foolishness of the conditioned soul."[1]
Conclusion:
Bhakti is the safest platform, because you do not produce any more karma. Whatever karma you have to act, it is finished in this life. Bhakti starts by chanting Hare Krishna mantra and hearing to lectures by sadhus.
