2022 shows a lot of promise for A.I. in healthcare, but a lot of work remains.
Hey Guys,
I think a lot about what AI for Good really means, and I'm convinced a lot of the best work will be done in healthcare and well-being.
I’ve been covering A.I. in healthcare for the first half of 2022 and it’s been impressive. There’s been a consistent amount of news that’s showing there’s some early adoption and a good bunch of research.
From pinpointing cancer treatments to marrying AI with smartphones and making tech more accessible, from early detection to better prediction, our health and well-being can and will be augmented by A.I.
To be honest my archives are getting pretty dense on AiSupremacy, so I decided recently to make columns at the top which I call journals to better format the writing for my audience.
These journals have names like:
I also wanted to cover A.I. startups, news, A.I. labs and other things like Op-Eds about some of the dangers, risks and lack of regulation and ethics in A.I. currently.
If you see potential in A.I. in healthcare, you are not alone. Here are some of the recent topics I covered on this so far in the last few weeks and months.
A Look into My Archives on A.I. in Healthcare (2022 articles)
Do you care about the A.I. for good movement? I most recently covered in the A.I. intersection of Healthcare the following topics:
There was a quote in a SCMP article I saw recently that was fascinating as well that sums up a lot of what is occurring:
‘We have taught machines to see what we can see. But it turns out that we also have taught machines to see things that we can’t see,’ a neuroscientist exclaims
While machine learning (ML) has been widely used in many industries, the use and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare is still relatively new. It is only recently that we have seen AI move from the world of academics and research laboratories to hospitals. Adoption is relatively slow, some staff are worried it could replace them, and labor shortages remain.
When my Mother recently passed away due to terminal Cancer, I was amazed at the level of her care (even with the Covid-19 restrictions). Human are capable of taking care of each other, but with aging populations at lower fertility rates, countries like China feel they have to implement a covid-zero policy just to avoid the gigantic loss of life. Honestly I don’t blame them, their hospital bed to population ratio isn’t up to handling a direct assault from Omicron.
But the mental health toll will be high as well the economic pain in places like China, North Korea and many other regions.
If you think about it, A.I. could help our mental health if it was designed to so do. Instead it’s been used to addict us to apps on our phones and sell more ads. Still there’s hope for the future. AI is used to assess risks, make an informed diagnosis, and perform precise surgical procedures. Today, AI is employed in all types of medical specialties and services, including rural care, surgery prioritization, drug discovery, or survival analysis.
If you want to support me in my coverage of A.I. on various topics, I’m trying to create a Newsletter with integral coverage of A.I. at the intersection of society, business, technology and news.

A.I. is Streamlining Care in Hospitals That will Reduce Hospital Stay
Fast forward to 2022 and it’s a brave new world of data-integration. Artificial-intelligence algorithms are processing vast troves of data in electronic medical records, searching for patterns to predict future outcomes and recommend treatments.
They are creating early-warning systems to help hospital staff spot subtle but serious changes in a patient’s condition that aren’t always visible or noticed in a busy unit, and predicting which patients about to be discharged from the hospital are at highest risk of being readmitted.
AI applications are trained to spot the patterns and connections in medical data that humans can and cannot see. But they can also search through vast amounts of data at high speed, and find the solutions much faster than a human. The predictive potential of A.I. combined with biotechnology, genomics, Nano-technology and new research in the future could add years to the human life-span and improve our quality of life and well-being.
With mobile, ambient computing, drones, robotics and IoT there are new applications on the way both for the smart home, hospital and how corporations deal with the mental health of their employees.
A.I. In Mental Health and Promoting Psychological Well-Being
Even just in for our psychological well-being, more awareness is driving more adoption:
According to the WEF, among other things AI is helping doctors to spot mental illness earlier and to make more accurate choices in treatment plans.
Apps and BigTech are starting to take mental health more into account after conducting their own research.
Communities like Doximity are also allowing Physicians to adopt A.I. to improve their practice of medicine. See this video if that topic interests you.
“We could employ AI to automate something that we already do, but we are selling it short if we imagine that all AI is good for is automating a familiar process. In the future, the evolution of AI will be about enabling us to see more,” he says. “It will allow us to understand more about disease states and more about how disease progression works.”
Due to the regulatory care that must be taken, adoption of A.I. into healthcare and education will be more slow and gradual as compared to other industries like retail, transportation, logistics, pharma and consumer apps. It will likely take decades until A.I. is meaningfully interacting with our healthcare and personalized our healthcare to an optimal degree.
Still I think it’s a big issue that’s worth covering. If you find that cause valuable also please give me a like on this article as to let me know you read it.
Thanks for reading! Hope you are having a good Sunday and weekend.
