Artificial Intelligence versus Machine Learning: Back to Basics
The term, artificial intelligence (AI), conjures up images of a science fiction type of lifestyle – possibly with humanoid robots that intend to usurp control over civilization. Yet, AI is already a very normal and integral part of our everyday lives and many of our business activities. Here we take a fresh look at the nature of AI, how to distinguish it from machine learning (ML), and the impact the applications of both of these technologies are having throughout the business community.
AI vs. ML
To begin, let’s define the key terms. According to the head of machine learning at Intel, AI is “how we make machines intelligent, while machine learning is the implementation of the compute methods that support it…AI is the science and machine learning is the algorithms that make the machines smarter.”
