Artist Kehinde Wiley photographed by Chris Sanders for project:artist
Back in 2004, Chris Sanders photographed Kehinde Wiley, the New York-based artist who recently painted Barack Obama’s presidential portrait, as part of Sanders’ photographic series project:artist – an ongoing exploration of working artists. Wiley is the first African American commissioned to paint an official portrait of the president for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
