Asia is poised to dominate web3 gaming, new report suggests

As per a study conducted by DappRadar in collaboration with Pacific Meta , the majority of web3 gamers are expected to be from Asia. Already possessing 55% of the global gaming population, which counts at around 1.7 billion players, the Asian market is anticipated to represent approximately 80% of all Web-3 gamers. Interestingly, the study discovered that the RPG genre of games, such as Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star Online, or Genshin Impact, is preferred the most in the Asian market. Trung Nguyen, Sky Mavis' co-founder, conveyed to Decrypt at GDC that web3 gaming conforms naturally to the Asian market as it aligns with the kinds of games that the market is already familiar with. In his opinion, as Web3 games shift their focus from financials to gameplay, Nguyen believes that eastern and western audiences will come to expect similar gaming experiences.

Pacific Meta's study surveyed around 1,000 adults in Japan, and among those who knew about blockchain games, almost 57% found web3 games intriguing, while only about 10% did not feel the same way. When questioned about the types of blockchain games they would be interested in, 773 out of the 1,030 respondents stated that they would like a game to be free-to-play, and the initial cost of the game was an essential aspect for them. Additionally, 538 said they would like the game to be available on mobile. whereas player earnings, game quality, consoles, or famous IP scored lower on the list. Overall, the study indicates a promising future for web-based gaming in Asia, particularly in the RPG genre.
