The Austrian Science Fund and the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research recognized Astrid for her excellent work in the Nature publication "Capillary cell-type specialization in the alveolus” at a September 18th award ceremony in Washington, DC. The ASciNA Award is exclusively given to young researchers who develop scientific publications of excellence during a stay at a North American research institution.

“I’m honored that my work in which I described two distinct capillary cell types in the lung was selected. I started this field of study at Stanford University and am proud to continue to pursue it at Calico with a focus on aging and lung diseases,” says Astrid. “This is very gratifying and motivates me to continue to make an impact in science, especially now that I have my own lab.”

Amoolya Singh is named one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business

Amoolya was recently recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as being among the top 100 women business leaders in real estate, law, tech, finance, health care, and other industries in the Bay Area. She and others in the exceptional 2021 class of Most Influential Women were acknowledged at a virtual ceremony on October 7 where many shared their wisdom, how they lead, what inspires them, and how they pay it forward to other aspiring women leaders.

“This award is a nice way to recognize the diversity of business leaders in the Bay Area; there are female leaders in every sector,” Amoolya says. “It’s certainly an honor to be listed among such trailblazers as Emily LeProust, CEO & Co-Founder of Twist Bioscience, and Sally Grimes, CEO of Clif Bar. And, I would love to get to a point where it’s not newsworthy to talk about women leaders – it should just be a normal thing.”

Congratulations to Astrid and Amoolya!
