In April, Shane Dean, Technical Site Engineer at Atkore Unistrut & Atkore Marco, was tasked by Daniel Tew, Sales Director, with manufacturing the iconic Atkore pyramid logo out of Flytec trunking. The brief for this project was to be a centerpiece presented at Atkore Unistrut & Atkore Marco’s sales meeting to showcase the capabilities of The Flytec Range.

This project was a huge success with the design being featured in Atkore Unistrut & Atkore Marco’s Product Catalogue. See the results for yourself on page 122!

Following this achievement, Shane was then challenged to design a 6ft sculpture of the Atkore pyramid logo to be placed outside the Atkore West Bromwich facility.

After conducting several planning sessions, Shane began designing and plotting it out in CAD. The first stage was deciding on which range of Trunking to use. From the initial stages, Shane knew that it would need to be made from 12x12 trunking for it to be symmetrical with the 6ft height.

Shane chose to use Flytec Prison Trunking (12X12 MOJ SPEC 1.6mm PG) because the design needed to be robust and strong for outdoor use. All bends used in the project were bespoke and nonstandard, this perfectly demonstrates the bespoke offering that Atkore offer onsite.

The structure’s lid fixings are integrated into the trunking body, eliminating the need for secondary clips/fixings. This means that the screws simply go through the lid and into the body.

The system is fully IP4X compliant using screw through lid covers, therefore adhering to MOJ spec. Taking a closer look at the structure you can see it has been put together using M5X10 tamperproof screws (PIN TORX).

After manufacturing the trunking, it was clear that the design could not be complete without it being in Atkore’s renowned green colour. The trunking was then powder coated both inside and out to Atkore’s green, giving extra weather protection.

Shane assembled a small team to help with this special project. The team members involved were, Narinder Sing (Sheet Metal Worker) and Steve Harrison (Brake Press Setter).

The 6ft Atkore pyramid project has been a triumph with internal employees and external customers praising the eye-catching design.

Here at Atkore Unistrut, we offer a variety of bespoke options to suit the needs of your application. Find out more about The Flytec Range here – or contact our experienced technical team today on our website.
