Not much news in the world of AR in November 2024. As every year, we are starting to feel the effects of the CES in January and companies are keeping “hot news” to feed journalists! However, it is not all calm since we have the announcement of the merger of Windows 11 and Meta Quest headsets, as well as the appearance of an “XR headset” category in the Google store (not really an announcement but it promises a good surprise for 2025).
On the business side, two acquisitions to note: Zappar by Infinite Reality and Almer by Realwear. A historic company and a much younger one are changing owners to increase their development. A little surprise from Tiktok: the “beauty” filters will be much more regulated and some will even be prohibited for those under 18. This is an important awareness of the impact of these filters on the users of the application.
On the hardware side, we are seeing more and more new models of connected glasses based on the Ray Ban Meta (RBM) model. Even Apple seems to want to launch its own model. 2025 will probably be the year of RBM-like, there remains the question of opening the market, especially for devices that do not rely on a known brand and ecosystem.
And for uses, this month offers us something “robust” with the virtual fitting of Burberry and Avène which goes through Snap to raise awareness of the dangers of X-rays. We can say that this type of use of AR is very common but we must not forget that their impact is strong. Conversion and satisfaction rates are always excellent, so it is normal that brands use them. We could even ask ourselves the question of “why” some do not use it.
See you in a month!
