August IT Job Market Trends
Job Market Insight: A Change in Pace for the Fall
As the summer draws to a close and the familiar rhythms of school and work routines resume, the impending shift also brings an uptick in the availability of open positions. The ebbs and flows of hiring trends throughout the year often reveal a recurring pattern: a gradual slowdown in recruiting activities during the summer months, followed by a resurgence throughout August. This seasonal hiring phenomenon can be attributed to a variety of factors, such as hiring managers and human resources professionals taking their planned vacations, potential job seekers opting to delay their active job search until after a period of time off, and the overall lull that ensues as the workforce takes collective breaks.
However, this summer hiatus is not as much of a roadblock, but rather a strategic pause that sets the stage for a more energized recruitment phase. The return of hiring managers and job seekers infuses a renewed sense of energy and focus into the hiring process. Hiring managers often find themselves making final decisions quicker than they were before. At the same time, great candidates are often jumping in to interviews for multiple opportunities, and we see that usually the quickest company to an offer gets the win.
We have seen candidate activity pick up in recent weeks, with spikes in job applicants both for jobs that have been open and jobs that were newly opened. Our historical data suggests that we will continue to have high activity until the holiday season picks up late in the fall. While major employers may continue to experience layoffs as acquisitions and reorganizations continue, we are still seeing a frenzy of hiring activity from some organizations.
National recruiting firms are missing these trends and the intricacies our team is seeing because they are spreading their attention across a large client list and many different industries. Perceptive Recruiting is a small team, focused on IT and Engineering, allowing us to pinpoint specific fluctuations in the industry throughout the years and challenges the hiring market has faced. Our small nature also allows us to be competitive during a hot hiring season, picking out the best candidates amongst the influx of applicants.
