August recap - FL Technics news
FL Technics starts partnership with SAUDI AIRLINES, as first airlines' aircraft lands in Lithuania.
FL Technics has recently signed a contract with Saudi Arabia Flag carrier Saudia. Under the agreement, we will provide aircraft base maintenance at the Kaunas hangar for the airline's Airbus A321 and Airbus A320 model aircraft. The first aircraft already landed at Kaunas airport at the beginning of August.
Saudia is one of the three largest airlines in the Middle East, operating local and international scheduled flights to more than 100 destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.
"We are delighted that the globally recognised airline Saudia has chosen FL Technics as their base maintenance provider," says Zilvinas Lapinskas , CEO of FL Technics. "Saudi Arabian airlines have extremely high requirements for suppliers and services, so the fact that FL Technics won this contract is a huge recognition of the quality of our services, which proves that our strategy of continuous improvement and growth is the right path for the business. As more and more prestigious global companies choose us, it comes as no surprise that we are constantly looking for reinforcements, mechanics and engineers who would like to work in our hangars and thus contribute to the rapid development of FL Technics.”
FL Technics, which seeks to grow the team of specialists currently working in the hangars, pays a lot of attention to developing young talents and offers an exclusive 5-year professional mechanic-engineer program, during which mechanics acquire the degree of certified engineers and can choose to work in any FL Technics’ hangar located in Lithuania or elsewhere.

FL Technics receives an extension of Part - 145 approval for Airbus A320NEO and Boeing 737MAX aircraft types
Progress in aviation is inevitable and FL Technics is on pace with it as the company has recently received an extension of Part-145 approval, certifying the company’s maintenance teams to service Airbus A320NEO and Boeing 737MAX aircraft types.
FL Technics, a global MRO solutions provider, expanded capabilities in the core business areas of base and line maintenance for A320NEO and 737MAX respectively, approved by the National Transport Competency Agency (TCA).
With this achievement, FL Technics is shifting focus from post-pandemic recovery targets to long-term strategic goals, with efficiency and sustainability at the core of business developments. As modern technologies and aircraft types are gradually replacing the classics, airlines and operators are aiming to upgrade their fleets across the globe to meet the regulations and environmental standards. Therefore, it is crucial to have capable maintenance to support next-generation aircraft fleets.
As pointed out by Zilvinas Lapinskas, CEO of FL Technics, “The Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) business is at the core of the aviation industry, being a medium between airlines and lessors. Leading counterparts are highly aware of the business operations' impact on the environment and planet, thus striving to reduce the CO2 footprint and energy consumption across the world. Naturally, one of the sustainable ways of achieving this – renewal of aircraft fleets. Such an upgrade creates a positive impact toward the goals, yet requires more sophisticated and modernized maintenance,“ he shared, further stressing the rigorous regulations and quality standards to be met when extending capabilities for next-generation aircraft types. “This is a highly challenging task for any MRO business, strictly regulated and audited by global and national organizations, involving advanced technology and digitalization. Thus, I am proud that the FL Technics team has proven to be worthy of such a benchmark. Both base and line maintenance teams just took a major step together with industry to create a better and more sustainable future of aviation.”
FL Technics has yet again progressed towards its commitment to reduce its impact on the environment, at the same time moving head-to-head with the industry to meet MRO solutions’ demand in years to come.
Continuous improvement is necessary to keep your competitive edge, and, in some cases, it leads to outsourcing of solutions.
A perfect example of this – the recent achievement by FL Technics engineering team, who were awarded a new contract from Air Malta. Continuous Airworthiness Management services (CAMO) will be provided to the carrier's fleet of 8 Airbus A320 aircraft.
A long-term partnership demonstrates trust from Air Malta, recognizing FL Technics commitment to quality and efficiency.
Great to have Air Malta on board, joining our fleet of 70+ aircraft currently supervised by our CAMO team!
Is digitalization the fuel for aviation businesses’ growth?
This, and many more questions, were touched on in MRO BEER 2022 panel back in June. FL Technics had the honor to be a part of it, represented by Juozas Lapeika, the Deputy CEO for Production Management. He took this opportunity to share his thoughts on the progress of hangar digitalization.
J. Lapeika believes that while digitalization is undeniably the future of this industry, it is not here yet. Third-party MROs cannot take full advantage of digital solutions, as most of them are still in the phase of pilot projects. However, some steps towards making the MRO sector more digitalized are, can, and should be taken. According to our Deputy CEO, those can be carried out in two stages:
1. Ensuring paperless data, flexible resource planning solutions, and smooth exchange of the data across all stakeholders.
2. Once the previous steps are implemented, the sector can start moving to augmented reality, drone inspections, etc.

Regarding the steps mentioned, there are also some challenges to keep in mind, such as resistance of hangar staff to use ERP and EASA requirements; lessors, who are not willing to make the change, as their next client could be an airline with CAMO paper request; ownership of data; the costs of the implementation process…

Does swapping university hours for some hangar time sound tempting?
It sure did for Dominyka Pakutkaite, now an aviation mechanic at FL Technics.
After being accepted to study at a university, she soon realized that the course was lacking practice. Luckily, the chance to start working on real aircraft straight away caught her eye.
The first three years flew by working as an avionic mechanic. "At the hangar, I need to keep reminding myself that I am helping these aircraft fly. It’s so rewarding!”, she said.
With the support of her team, Dominyka intends to become a fully licensed aircraft mechanic.
