Sharing Ideas and Staying Connected with Residents
North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation is committed to working with the Bowen community to design a vibrant and valued public Jetty for future generations. To ensure the new Bowen Jetty meets local needs and preferences, the corporation sought the community's input by presenting two different concept designs.
Using the Hotspot Tool, North Queensland Bulk Ports showcased these concept plans in an interactive and engaging format. Residents could explore the proposed developments in detail by clicking on specific hotspots, which provided information about the exact location and details of various facilities planned along the port. This approach not only made the plans more accessible but also helped the community visualize the future of the port, fostering greater understanding and participation in the project.
Remaining Inclusive and Keeping Residents Informed
Gladstone Regional Council is committed to keeping residents informed about ongoing projects in their area. To achieve this, the Council takes a proactive approach, by tailoring project information to meet the specific needs and interests of each community member.
To enhance communication, the Council has implemented the Hotspot tool to create a dynamic community portal that educates and informs residents about ongoing projects in Gladstone. This tool enables residents to easily engage with projects by selecting specific areas of interest or those directly impacting their neighborhood. Through an interactive, user-friendly map, the Council provides detailed information on developments, fostering transparency and encouraging active community participation in local initiatives. Well done, Gladstone!

Displaying an Interactive Concept Design
After securing approval to acquire 13.7 hectares of land from the former Bowmanville Zoo, the Municipality of Clarington tasked staff with developing a comprehensive Park Master Plan. This plan includes concepts for recreational facilities, amenities, and trails while also serving as a foundation for ongoing community engagement and consultation to shape the future of the Bowmanville Zoo Lands Community Park.
Using the Hotspot tool, Clarington has presented its park concept design in an interactive format. Residents can click on specific hotspots to learn more about each feature, from picnic areas to multi-use playfields. This can help residents understand where their specific interests are located. Kudos to the Municipality of Clarington for taking proactive steps to better inform and engage residents.
Demonstrating a Project Timeline for Decision-Making
In 2015, the decommissioning of the Rocky View County Springbank Community Hall left many local clubs, user groups, and residents without a central space for community activities. In response, the County has embarked on the initial stages of constructing a new Community Event Centre in Springbank. From 2020 to 2023, Rocky View County conducted extensive research and community engagement to develop the concept for the South Springbank Community Event Centre.
To present the decision-making process, Rocky View County utilized the Hotspot tool, allowing residents to click on each stage to learn more about the project’s background and timeline. This approach not only enhanced transparency but also made the complex details of the project easily accessible and understandable for everyone.
We hope you found these examples inspiring.
See you in September!
