Auto-away: I’m going offline

I’m about to go somewhere intense. Six days with no phone, music, books, or exercise. Six 12 hour days of deep diving into my childhood and the influences that contributed to my severe yet totally unspecial and very human damage. 

I have no idea what I’m getting myself into; the program is somewhat of a black box, and it’s called the Hoffman Process. Several of my friends have gone and come back completely changed. They don’t talk about what happens in the program but they do talk about the transformation. I’m expecting to do things like beat pinatas with my parents’ faces on them, but I really hope that’s not the case. 

Paying to be around people I don’t know to do things that aren’t my idea sounds like a special kind of hell. But you know what real hell is? 

Real hell is an unexamined life. Real hell is a sleepwalking performance of childhood traumas, and it’s one that most of us are acting out every moment of our waking realities. 

So I choose the less expensive hell. The one that will help me decode the tired script I’ve been acting out since before I can even remember. Thank the lord my trauma has blocked much of it out, anyway. 

So I’m going bye-bye. You won’t hear from me on social media, here, or anywhere. But before I go, I want to know: have you ever done a digital detox? What did it do for you?
