Ever wonder what another company gets up to with their test automation? Are you curious to know how others maintain their test automation frameworks?

We can learn a lot from the test automation strategies of other organisations. Read on for successful test automation tips from companies at the forefront.

  • Renka Gaddu and Vaibhav Vaja from Admiral Group share that visual automated testing has emerged as a pivotal component of modern Quality Engineering in their organisation. They highlight the importance of developing their own release strategy, including a well-thought-out branching strategy that includes an approval system.
  • At Guild Education, Melissa Tondi highlights the importance of a centralised repository and guidelines, along with leveraging metrics and a “leave no trace” method.
  • Atmaram Naik from Sedin Technologies helped move from an arrange-act-assert approach to state-based automation. As part of that, they introduced a state dependency graph to help come up with test steps.
  • The folks at the DVLA, such as Nigel Brookes-Thomas and Alexander O'Mahoney , developed an SDET capability by bringing software engineers and testers together to learn from each other. Since starting the initiative in 2018, this involved establishing testing standards, a community of practice and accountability.
