Automation Testing Tools = Toys
Friends, interesting observation I want to point out. When I started my QA career 21 years ago the most popular tool at that time was Winrunner. I remember how successful marketing and advertising was for this tool that almost every single QA shop has purchased the tool. Than Winrunner became QTP and nowadays it is UFT.
Since then, more than 1000 of new automation tools hit the market. The problem which I see is that many of us are using automation tools as toys. We start learning and exploring and then we get bored and need another toy to play with. And start playing with another tool. And some toys you like more and you want to play with them more and you want to convince others that those toys are the best toys. This is absolutely wrong. This is how we are not making any progress in automation space because we constantly jumping into new toys and use our own preferences and provide recommendations which are for the most part are biased.

6yI agree. There has been zero productivity gains with tools in decades a it’s a serious issue. Hence the groundbreaking work we have attempted at Appvance. The industry needs a step change to keep up with ever increasing application complexity and reduced cycle times.
Hi Ruslan - I am not able to get the point put forward here through this note. I see contradictions. How is new tools development stopping the growth of automation? In fact it should aid to growth. Should people stick to only few tools and not give chance or try out new innovative products. And what is the harm if one tries a new product and based on his liking recommend it to others. I am sure you will get the point I am trying to make.
