The Balance and More...

As my colleague pinged me for a post for our newsletter, I was reading the Economic Times of Thursday, 25th March about the Global Icon Bruce Lee and The Silent Flute…. I cannot but mention here that I am an ardent lover of his two-finger push-up!!! This man had many quotes to his credit and the one that strikes me the most is “The Successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus.

So, as my thoughts lingered between Bruce Lee, his quote on laser-like focus and the fitness mantra, I was supposed to pen down… I reflected on what fitness means to me… I was enticed to juxtaposition the constituents in the Digital World with the components of fitness, strength, robustness…. Well being is not just absence of disease – physical and mental, it isn’t having a good physique or building endurance and running a 100 mile race… it is about being at peace with oneself from all dimensions which implies a complete understanding of the self; moving from “selfies” to the “self”!!!

The basic components for a Digital presence in the Cyber World existence requires – the hardware, Software, Operating System, Database, Network….. and the basic components of your “self” to live in this “Real” World are – your body, your mind, your beliefs, your thoughts and your emotions!! How well do we take care of our “Real” World existence in contrast to our Digital Presence !!! Both Worlds are vulnerable to Hacks but are we investing enough on the right policies and frameworks in our real World as we are in our Cyber World?... is the question…

Now that we recognise the contours of wellbeing; how do we build our path towards the same- there are some obvious and not so obvious actions that could pave this route…. The obvious ones being … the hardware in the Real World needing exercise and nutritious food …… to the not so obvious ones being Improvement of Emotional Quotient to ensure robust networks in the Real World…… The mind is the software that runs complex codes and algorithms based on your Operating System akin to the belief system you carry!!! Why do you see two different people reacting to the same situation very differently! Isn’t it akin to the OS compatibility need to your software codes??? Now, Let us survey our “Thoughts”!! Did you know that there are more thoughts that your mind updates than the number of seconds in a minute??? Have you even examined the nature of Thoughts that you produce every day! Am sure you have heard of GIGO ??

Given this setup of our Device in the Real World, is there a single step that can help you build the right framework for your Hardware, Software, Database, Operating System and Network – experientially, I can say, there is!! Even if you were to run a marathon or build your muscles through weight training or eat healthy food or give up on your extra sugar; even if you were to deliver a project or manage a team or learn a new skill – it is the confluence of the mind, body, emotion, beliefs and thoughts that propels you!!! And to unite all of this in one direction and gain the “laser like focus” for “the average man” to enhance into a “successful warrior” – all you need is Meditation!!!!!...........

Thank you Very nice compilation to focus on self, inward introspection is the key to success!

Fantastic thoughts and well written. We often take our body for granted and fill our thoughts with unwanted items. I believe that we are an aggregation of what we think, eat and do...

Very interesting perspective. Love the opening For me Focus can come from purpose/goal or simply the desire to do so. Focus can lead to a feeling of “flow” when one can start enjoying whatever one is doing. A state of “flow” can be like meditation.
