Is lead gen really the problem?
When sales are drying up (or not picking up in the first place) our first response can be that we need more leads. This leaves us open to the kind of people who offer too-good-to-be-true systems that promise hundreds of qualified leads to transform your business… but actually do nothing than drain you of your budget.
We’ve been working with our members to look at their whole sales process and help them understand if it really is lead generation that’s the issue or something else.
The hard truth is that you need to work on the process as a whole first before you start chasing new leads. The good news is that you’ve likely got some low hanging fruit that you can’t see yet because chasing leads seems easier.
To help you out, we’ve put together a 10-step guide so that you can pinpoint if you need more leads or to focus your efforts on something else.

I don’t know anyone who goes into business to be a sales person. We go into business because we’re passionate about what we do and how our skills can help serve others. Yet, without sales, we have no business.

Taking a look behind the curtain: a way to think about niching that isn’t scary
Niching is scary. We hear this all the time. “If I niche then won’t I be turning away customers?” It can certainly feel like that at first but what if we change the way we think about niching?
George and I tell our members to think about it as in front of the curtain and behind the curtain.
Your niche is a marketing tool that exists in front of the curtain. It’s a way to signal to your ideal client that you’re the expert they need. Yet, behind the curtain, you don’t need to turn down work because it doesn’t fit into your niche. You can still follow up with referrals who you want to work with and know you can help.
Niching doesn’t bring you fewer leads, it generates more.
So start thinking about your niche as in front of the curtain - the forward-facing part of your business - and not as what’s happening behind the scenes.
Finally, niching is so important right now. It is harder to sell and prospective clients need more reassurance that you are right for them. Your niche should do this before you even have a sales call.
