Beautycounter for Black Girls
If you follow up-and-coming beauty products (or clean beauty) at all, you may have come across the name Beautycounter.
Maybe you saw their documentary with National Geographic about tracing down the source(s) of mica used in their products.
It’s also possible you saw Fact Company give them the title of the Most Innovative Beauty brand for 2020 based on their mission and commitment to transparency.
Or you could be in the large company of folks who have yet to hear about Beautycounter.
At any rate, you should know the name.
And their mission to be leaders in the clean beauty space and make sure that “clean beauty” applies to all beauty and how they are focused on getting safer products into the hands of everyone.
Guess what? Everyone includes Black women.
As Black women we do have slightly different needs (or areas of focus) when it comes to skincare.
For one, we often are dealing with discoloration (see our post about hyperpigmentation). And in dealing with that, we have to pay special attention to keeping the balance of our skin.
Too much dryness causes clogged pores and acne.
Too much oil and we get greasy and blemish bound.
Exfoliation is a big focus because of all of the above.
As well as vitamin C to regulate our melanin.
So here are my favorite Beautycounter products that work for US.
This serum uses turmeric, vitamin c, and camu camu extract to balance your skin tone and lift those dark spots. It truly has helped alleviate my skin stresses (from environment & picking) to leave me glowing and even. Say hello to make-up free!
This light foundation uses vitamin c & black currant seed oil to leave you with a glow-boosting, sheer coverage that is perfect for summer. (And all year really if you’re on the more lighter makeup side of things)
If what you want is more coverage, check our extensive shades of Skin Twin that gives you a long-wearing, hydrating foundation.
This powerhouse (honest to goodness) will improve the clarity and texture of your skin while you sleep. It’s a peel in the sense that it “exfoliates” but in a much gentler manner. You put it on, wait, moisturize and then sleep! That’s it!
Both are meant to draw our impurities and detoxify your skin. Two crucial things when it comes to the hot (and humid) summer months. Especially if you’re wearing your masks. My skin stays balanced and blemish free when I use these two products on a regular basis.
Just because you might be sweaty, doesn’t mean you should be skimping on moisturizer. Even out your skin tone while you boost the radiance your skin wants. I add one to two drops to my face moisturizer and silky smoothness is the result.
Sugar Body Scrub in Lemongrass
Because razor bumps and ingrown hairs are annoying, but something many of us Black women deal with. Use this to exfoliate your skin before you shave and get ready to be smooth and glowy!
As always, make sure you’re following your go-to 4 step skin (self) care routine.
- Cleanse
- Tone
- Treat
- Moisturize
