The Bee Foundation - Honey Bash Gala
Six years ago my wife’s cousin passed away on Christmas Day at the age of 27 from a brain aneurysm. After the initial shock wore off my wife (Erin) and her sister (Christine) started doing some research into brain aneurysms as their cousin was a healthy young woman. The more they found out about brain aneurysms (1 in 50 people in the US have one) the more they realized, the information out there relates to treatment after a brain aneurysm ruptures, but sadly only ~50% of the people survive after rupture. They decided that more awareness and funding preventative research was critical to addressing this devastating disease. In 2014, they founded The Bee Foundation in honor of their cousin to raise awareness and fund preventative research. Each year they host several awareness events and host an annual gala which has raised over $1,000,000 for Brain Aneurysm research. With those donations they have funded 8 research grants and 2 fellowships. They make frequent trips to Washington DC which has resulted in a bill in the senate and house of representatives to increase NIH brain aneurysm funding. The Bee Foundation has been nominated for top non-profit in Philadelphia through the RAD awards, they won Philadelphia Inquirer’s Most Charitable Funds award, and had articles in RedBook and Philadelphia Citizen. The Bee Foundation has even been featured on Fox News, ABC, and NBC.
I could not be more proud for what Erin and Christine set out to do six years ago and how far they come. On October 5, 2019 the Bee Foundation will be hosting the 6th annual Honey Bash Gala at the Fitler Club in Philadelphia which should be the biggest and best Gala yet!
