Behind the Ground-Breaking Opening of Shoreline Mall, SmartCity

Step behind the scenes of Bigbon Group and meet Olatz Erquicia, the Operations Manager. Starting as a sales assistant, Olatz's appointment to Operations Manager in 2022 showcases her professional growth and development in managing IT systems, implementing policies, managing point of sales, and implementing in-store security measures.

Olatz is passionate about leveraging digital tools to revolutionise retail strategies. Collaborating with her team, she has implemented various digital solutions that optimise store operations, enhance store team productivity, and ultimately elevate the customer experience.

As Bigbon Group gears up for the launch of 5 new stores at Shoreline Mall, SmartCity, Olatz and her team are working tirelessly with Inditex to set up sales points, CCTV monitoring, security protocols, and other operational essentials. Reflecting on this flagship project, Olatz shares, "Embracing the latest advancements excites me, and I enjoy learning and adapting to these innovations. It’s rewarding to witness our progress and how these advancements fuel the growth and efficiency of our operations." 

During her 7-year tenure at Bigbon Group, Olatz has developed her professional skills as a result of various training opportunities that positioned her for her current role. "Leadership is about creating a vision, inspiring and motivating others, and providing guidance and support," says Olatz. "I am dedicated to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute to the company's success."  

As a Spanish expat, navigating a new country and culture has powered her resilience and adaptability, qualities that have been instrumental in her success at Bigbon Group.

When I first joined the company, my expectations were uncertain because of my situation. Moving to a new country and starting a new job can be nerve-wrecking, and I wasn't sure how long I would be staying in Malta. However, from the moment I stepped into the workplace, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. This supportive environment exceeded my initial expectations and played a significant role in making me feel at home in a foreign land.
