Being Human: A Resolution for the Care Sector
We've made it to 2024, and this morning in the office we all got together to catch up, check in and share our personal New Year's resolutions. And it got me thinking...
As we sat there, reflecting on our personal goals for 2024, I noticed most of them were similar:
Notice a trend? And then I thought a bit more about collective goals and resolutions in our sector.
The past years have been a roller-coaster of challenges in the resilient heart of the care sector, testing the mettle of our dedicated carers and professionals in health and social care settings. The pandemic unfurled a tapestry of unprecedented trials, and whilst our caregivers and healthcare professionals showcased unparalleled strength , it also laid bare the vulnerabilities of burnout and compassion fatigue. The toll of tireless service cast a shadow of emotional exhaustion and overwhelming stress
To my fellow caregivers, I say this:
Please prioritize your well-beingas fiercely as you champion the well-being of those you care for. Recognize the weight of your contribution, and realize that in acknowledging your own needs, you're fostering resilience for all.
This year, let's make a resolution to reignite the very core that drew you to this vocation and this sector - humanity. It's always in those small acts of kindness
In the corridors of hospitals, the homes of those we serve and our offices, we can cultivate cultures founded on support
We are all human - we cannot forget the faces, the stories and the souls behind every care plan, every form we fill out, every plan we make and every colleague with whom we work. Each individual we are privileged to support and impact is a human being, where "service-land" is irrelevant. It's all about the people, and the culture.

This year, could we make our collective resolution to just be a bit more human, full stop?
Great reflection Ashleigh. Wishing you a Healthier Happier 2024.
