Being a Part of the Jobsite Time Machine
Growing up in the construction industry has been a rewarding experience. In fact, my family’s been at it for four generations. What is even more rewarding is being a part of the industry’s transformation over the past 10 years.
Seeing the differences in how people are executing take-offs, surveying buildings, or even managing their drawings through technology is incredible.
My first exposure to this was when I worked at Turner Construction, where I was both an Assistant PM and a Superintendent. I was told I to put away my architectural scale ruler and was handed a flash drive with software that let me do take-offs electronically. I worked in construction for Turner and other companies for about seven years. When I started seeing this change in mentalities and technology implementation, I knew I wanted to be a part of this movement.
I was thrilled to embark on the construction technology space 5 years ago and have learned more about the industry, and not just about the tech. I have been able to step back and see how new technology can truly help construction with improving the daily processes on all levels. To be a part of this shift has truly been a highlight in my career, and it’s thrilling to see tools coming to market that I wish I had when I was in the field.
This path has now led to my latest construction technology venture with OpenSpace.
Having worked in construction technology for the last five years, I have a better understanding of what technology I wanted to be a part of and what I truly saw value in. I knew the next technology I was a part of needed to be something I could envision with the mindset of a construction professional who truly sees the benefits. After all, that mindset has been my own!
After learning about OpenSpace, I thought about the time when I was in charge of closing out 2,500 punch list items on a 17 story hospital. With the capabilities of OpenSpace for capturing actionable data, I could have saved hundreds of hours.
My interest grew with OpenSpace after my conversations with their team. From technical discussions to operational processes, their vision/roadmap, and most importantly understanding their culture, I knew this was the right fit.
In addition to these reasons, I wanted to stand behind a product I believe in. From a technical level, OpenSpace has created the easiest to use, most powerful platform for using 360 photo documentation and AI. I know the space well given my experience and this platform is the best: the OpenSpace platform excels in are the quality of the data captured, the speed to turnaround the useful data, and the simplicity of the interface for viewing the data. These reasons (simplicity being the most important) are why they have been so successful in the construction industry and why I support their technology.
It’s hard to find an organization that is as young as OpenSpace but runs like a well-oiled machine that’s been operating for decades. OpenSpace has the formula to figure out the best way to solve client’s requests and/or demands without getting distracted from its ultimate vision.
We are able to work in a collaborative environment with like-minded individuals for delivering real value to this industry. Lastly, the co-founders and upper management are beyond intelligent, humble, and driven, which makes it easy to stand behind them and the product for building this company.
In a nutshell: I couldn’t be more excited to be part of OpenSpace. And if you want to learn more about us, drop me a line!
