Being a Professional - Being successful at what you do

Being a Professional - Being successful at what you do

We start our lives with dreams in our eyes, with aspirations for ourselves and our loved ones. The first step for most of us graduating from a life under the protection of our parents or any other parallel ecosystem is a job. It's a place where we go, work and get rewards which then help us take care of the dreams and the aspirations of our family. There are joys to be had, smiles to be generated and tears to be wiped from the efforts we put at the work. A mother has to be relieved of the relentless chores she still does by providing her a house help, A sister has to be married off, a younger brother has to be put through the right education, a father has to be told to relax and have a laugh, an uncle needs support in his old age, a bike has to be bought, a cycle has to be fitted with a new seat. A gas connection might be needed, the leaking roof has to be fixed, a move may be required to better quarters. Access to water and electricity or roads could be achieved. There are hearts that need to beat, there are lives that need to be lived. A world has to be seen and a world has to be born!

So failing in our professional life is not an option! it's very important that we are successful in what we do. It's very important that we use every skill that we have to excel and grow in our professional life. It's equally important to ensure our colleagues succeed as we all share a common thread of humanity and being the providers in the circle of life.

I am sharing a few learnings of my professional life which has helped me:

Bring the passion to your work
Believe in yourself and believe in your organization
Trust the people you work with
Seek help when needed, Don't be afraid of accepting that you don't know
Learn from those who are better than you. Never stop learning
Don't be afraid of making mistakes
Don't cover up when you have made a mistake. Call yourself out before anyone else does
Work hard, there is no substitute to good hard work. Eventually your work will speak for you.
Put those long hours at work, it will help you learn your job and be better
Bring innovation to your work. be your own critic
Be productive by following and improving processes
Respect structures and teams
stay away from negative thoughts and gossip
Treat people as you want them to treat you
Never kiss up and kick down in an organization
Walk the talk
Be transparent
Be honest, never compromise on your core values
Bring empathy to work
never stop dreaming
Never take the credit of someone elses work
Finish the tasks on your list then and there. Don't procrastinate
Don't be afraid of taking decisions
Be humble and be firm.
keep your ego in check
Don't step on others to rise up in an organization
Smile
Be Human

These are simple "mantras" which can make our professional life and journey smooth, satisfying and successful.
