Belgian Beer Weekend 2023

Each year the Belgian Family Brewers organised Belgian Beer Weekend is among the first dates put into our calendar. A truly wonderful opportunity to share a beer with people in the industry we've been friends with for decades. It's well known, that in beer the best business is done with glass in hand.

This time round we managed to get out for extended visits with:

Duvel Moortgat Michel Moortgat is one of our longest term friends in Belgium, as Duvel were our first ever direct supplier, all the way back in the early 80s.

(L-R) Michel Moortgat, Ann Clay, Ian Clay, and James Clay

Brasserie d'Achouffe we were lucky enough to spend time enjoying a tour with the legendary Chris Bauweraerts, one of the founders of the brewery. Taking it from a cobbled together 49L brewkit, to a global brand.

Huyghe Brewery inducted Jennie, Chris, Jamie, and Max, into the Order of the Pink Elephant. Celebrating their extraordinary Delirium Tremens, a true classic of the category.

Belgian Beer Weekend itself is simply incomparable. Dozens of Belgium's best brewers, pouring in proper glassware, in the stunning surroundings of the Grand Place. Unmissable.

With so many of Belgium's key players being family businesses, it's extremely important for us to spend time together as people, families, and business colleagues. We sell well over 12,000 hectolitres per year of Belgian beer, impossible to achieve without this face to face interaction, and certainly nowhere near as fun.

Here's to next year.

Santé.
