Seeds for the Future: Nurturing the Next Generation of ICT Talent

The Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Final recently concluded in Shenzhen, marking the largest offline event since its inception. With over 170,000 students from 2,000+ universities and colleges across 80+ countries and regions, the competition brought together 160 teams — 470 contestants from 49 countries — to compete in a showcase of exceptional talent and innovation. Grand Prizes were awarded to teams from Algeria, China, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, the Philippines, Tanzania, Türkiye, and Uganda, while special awards like the Best Social Media Popularity Award, Green Development Award, Women in Tech Award, and TECH4ALL Digital Inclusion Award highlighted outstanding achievements in various categories.

At the ICT Accelerating Education Transformation Summit, Huawei also awarded 24 instructors the "Huawei ICT Academy Global Most Valuable Instructor" title, recognizing their critical contributions to talent development. Since its launch in 2015, the Huawei ICT Competition has provided students a platform for healthy competition and exchanges of ideas, enhancing ICT knowledge and practical skills to foster innovation and global digital inclusion.

Huawei and China Unicom Guangdong recently hosted the Zengcheng Lychee Live Streaming Festival, showcasing the transformative power of 5G in agriculture. The event, themed "A 5G Boost for Lychees", featured influencers and live streamers using 5G technology to promote and sell lychees, achieving uplink speeds exceeding 500 Mbps during a 5.5G network trial. This innovative approach highlighted how 5G live streaming can enhance sales conversion and support high-quality development in digital agriculture. • Tech That Keeps Thai Durian at the Top of the Market: Utilizing infrared sensors and AI, Huawei Cloud and CP Group have developed a system to ensure the quality of Thailand's durian exports. Tech4Nature: Enabling Nature Conservation Together

With climate change and biodiversity loss posing significant threats to our planet, digital technology has become crucial in mitigating environmental degradation. In 2020, Huawei and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) launched the Tech4Nature partnership to protect biodiversity and natural ecosystems through technological innovation. At the recent 2024 Tech4Nature Summit, we marked the commencement of Phase 2 of this global partnership, further promoting innovation in nature conservation. The first phase of Tech4Nature (2020-2023) saw significant successes in five Protected and Conserved Areas (PCAs) across China, Mauritius, Mexico, Spain, and Switzerland, with initiatives such as acoustic monitoring in China to help identify individual Hainan gibbons, AI pattern recognition to track jaguars in Mexico, and advanced systems to monitor coral reef conservation in Mauritius. Phase 2 (2023-2026) will support six flagship projects in China, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Kenya, and Türkiye, aligning with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Additionally, the Huawei-STC SmartTruck is making a significant impact in Saudi Arabia by providing free digital skills training to elderlies, especially those in remote areas. This initiative aims to bridge the “grey digital divide” and improve quality of life for the elderly, who often face challenges in using modern technology. Over a period of three years, our mobile digital classroom will tour Saudi Arabia, offering training on using the Internet, fraud protection, and maintaining online privacy.
