It is not your technical skills that will determine whether you will be successful in your tech journey.

As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on a year filled with lessons, connections, and growth. It’s been a journey of discovery, not just of the ever-evolving tech world but also of the power of people, communities, and collaboration.

I had the privilege of speaking at DevFest Ilorin 2024, where I shared my thoughts on how to grow a thriving tech career beyond just technical skills. The truth is, success isn’t just about mastering code; it’s about mastering the art of finding your niche, learning consistently, building projects, and collaborating with others.

Here’s a quick recap of my talk:

1. Find your niche: Don't try to do everything. Focus on a specific area where you can shine.
2. Continuous learning & build projects: The best way to grow is to apply what you learn. Build, experiment, and improve.
3. Network & collaborate: Surround yourself with the right people. Your community can unlock opportunities you never imagined.
4. Share your knowledge: People don’t know what you know until you share it. Speak up, write, and let your expertise be known.
5. Sell yourself: Your work is great, but the world needs to see it. Be intentional about presenting yourself as the professional you aspire to be.

This year, I saw firsthand how these principles transformed not only my journey but also the journeys of those I’ve had the honour to mentor and work with.

As I close this chapter of 2024, I want to thank you for being part of my journey. Whether through your engagement, your kind words, or simply your support from afar, you’ve been an integral part of my story.
