Bifurcation?…….bollocks! Here’s a radical solution 😉

I‘m with Rory McIlroy. You don’t need to change the great game of golf for the Tour Pros - less than 1% of the planet’s players. Talk of changing the Pro ball, scaling back on already regulated club technology or maybe even restricting the number of protein shakes Mr. De Chambeau* is allowed to drink in a day, is not the answer.

Let’s acknowledge, and celebrate, that the men and women of 21st century professional golf are athletes. They are awesome. Bifurcation would be like giving Usain Bolt lead trainers. Seriously? Is that what the world wants to see? I reiterate……..bollocks!

„But the top Pros are destroying the golf courses! We can’t keep making the courses longer!“.

I agree. So let’s combine logic and outside the box thinking.

Who wins the tournament? Obviously, the player who plays the golf course, over 4 days, in the least number of shots. Every time. It’s never been any different. Does it matter how many under par they are? No. It’s just the guy or gal who‘s completed 4 rounds in the least number of strokes.

So how about this for a solution:

(a) Do away with par. It‘s just a stroke count. As its always been.

Or…

(b) Do away with par 5's for Tour pros. There’s only Par 3’s and par 4’s. Then it wouldn’t matter a hoot if they’re reaching long holes in two. And there would definitely be more bogeys. This is better than solution (a) because there’s still a live score reference point - Par. And the need to keep lengthening the golf courses? Sorted.

It‘s all about finding out who is the most skilled, consistent and lucky player over 4 days of competitive golf by counting how many shots they took. End of story. Par Schhmmarrr!

The 100m will always be 100m. They’ll never make it longer just because the Pros run it in 9+ seconds and Joe Soap can only run it in 15+ seconds. Even if they start running it in 8 seconds, lets marvel at that. The whole draw of watching professional sports people is to be in awe of their feats. „How the f***?“ jaw dropping moments is why we pay our money to watch.

Two simple solutions, one short article.

I‘d be delighted to hear your comments 😊👍🏻

For the love of the game,
