The biggest mistake you can make in 2024 (How to properly set goals for the new year)

Why are we so bad at setting goals?

I hope you don't expect me to give you all the answers. Even with all the technological and scientific growth we've seen over the past decades, there's more we don't know about humans than we know. But nonetheless we might have a few possible explanations: 

  • We think "saying we'll do something" will make us do it. 
  • We think motivation will strike each time we'll need it. 
  • We rely on our memory to do the right thing at the right time. 
  • And probably a thousand other misconceptions/mistakes. 

Let's look at some data

Here is what we can observe from some experts and from some studies around this: 

  • Clinical Psychologist Joseph J. Luciani, Ph. D, says most resolutions fail due to sabotage caused by a lack of self-discipline.
  • 33% of participants of a study who failed their new year's resolutions didn’t keep track of their progress. 23% forgot about their resolutions. (source)
  • A research shows that 80% of people ditch their New Year’s resolutions by February. 
  • The success rate for achieving goals was 76% when study participants wrote down their goals and developed a plan. (source) 


So what should we do? 

Now, what to actually do. Over the past 9 years, I've been testing, researching, applying, adapting different ways and strategies to set a vision and new goals for the new year, and actually reaching them and quite honestly living the life of my dreams. 

I will share with you all the details but first here's the gist of it:

  • Take a look back at the preview year and extract all the lessons and observations
  • Assess all of your life’s areas (health, career, relationships, finances, etc.)
  • Set goals according to the areas you want to see improvement
  • Set habits that will get you to reach those goals
  • Put systems in place to track those habits.
