What’s new from Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) in July 2024

Instagram may make the message icon the main character Instagram has been putting a focus on DMs lately so this test doesn't surprise us! The app is testing putting the message icon in the middle of the navigation bar.

You can now add 20 different songs to a reel If you've ever wanted to have multiple songs in your reel, you can now add your favourite 20. Yes, 20.

Instagram provides Reels best practices Instagram’s Professional Dashboard now shows Reels best practices! Here's a highlight of what it says:

➡️ Use a 3-second hook

➡️ Your video should be 30-60 seconds long

➡️ Use trending relevant hashtags

➡️ Use trending audio

➡️ Use a high-res video

➡️ Post 10 Reels per month

Instagram Chief doubles down on sends Adam Mosseri posted a video on his Instagram this week confirming that brands and creators should be creating content that users would want to DM to their friends.

Threads gets an interactive update! You can pinch carousel images together to merge them into a single image. Pretty cool!

Threads celebrates it's birthday with interesting insights

Threads is 1! Can you believe it? It released some interesting insights on text-based sharing to celebrate the platform's birthday. Did you know more than 63% of posts are fully text-only, no images?

AI summaries of Facebook comments Have you ever seen a Facebook post with thousands of comments and you wanted to know what's going on but didn't want to read it all? Well, Facebook now includes an AI summary of the comments! This feature can be removed from individual posts.

Meta expands Reels overlay ads Reels overlay ads will show on your screen with a CTA prompt. They'll be a single image or a carousel of promotions.

Facebook tests "clear mode" for Reels Instagram has been testing this feature and it has now made it's way over to Facebook! With clear mode, users will be able to clear the Reels UI when watching a video.

X will allow users to request a community note Users are now able to request a community note on a post that is making questionable claims.

X may be disincentivizing links in replies X is testing a new feature that would let you stop users from posting links in replies.

X continues to work on reply sorting X is currently working on a feature that would allow users to sort post replies in-stream. This would help highlight the most relevant replies.

What’s new from TikTok in July 2024

TikTok thumbnails . . . but make them custom! Matt Navarra announced you can now upload a custom thumbnail image for your TikTok videos.

You can now download TikTok clips without a watermark I bet you've been waiting for this one! When you save a TikTok video, you'll be given two options: "save with watermark" and "post to save without watermark."

TikTok is developing a new AI chatbot TikTok is working on an AI chatbot named "Genie." One of the features will help users post questions in-stream and get immediate responses.

YouTube is testing picture-in-picture viewing YouTube announced a few new tests including picture-in-picture viewing for Shorts, a new way to mention other users in comments, and Shorts downloads for Premium users.
