🎣 The first all-ladies angling team is competing in the Sea Angling Classic to reel in funds to support the fight against cancer.

Team Crewsaver, comprising four women with varying levels of fishing experience, aims to raise vital funds to donate to Cancer Research UK to support the fight against cancer.

The first all-female team is set to participate in the annual Sea Angling Classic from 20-23 June at Premier Marina Port Solent, on the UK south coast.

Earlier this year, Crewsaver, Survitec’s leading lifejacket brand, unveiled a limited edition pink Crewfit 165N Sport lifejacket to fundraise – 100 per cent of all donations for the pink lifejackets go directly to Cancer Research UK supporting breast cancer.

As a symbol of their commitment to raising awareness and funds, Team Crewsaver members Gemma Robins, Hannah Burywood, Izzy George, and Emma York will don these pink lifejackets during the competition to ensure their safety but also serve as a beacon of solidarity for those affected by cancer.

“We are anchored in hope while catching tope! By combining our passion for angling with our dedication to this vital cause, we hope to inspire others and draw attention to the importance of safety in boating alongside the ongoing fight against cancer.”

says Survitec director of marketing and fishing team member, Hannah Burywood.

The 2024 Sea Angling Classic is the third edition of this annual event, taking place in the diverse fishing grounds of the Solent.

🇩🇪 German shipyard Lürssen has delivered its second new build in as many months.

The latest superyacht to leave the shipyard is Haven, known during construction as Project Cali.

The vessel departed on 17 June 2024 to embark on its maiden voyage, after hitting the water in November. The launch comes after 122-metre superyacht Kismet left the shipyard in May to make its maiden voyage.

Jim Robert Sluijter, the lead exterior designer at Bremen-based Lürssen, developed Haven‘s concept and exterior design in-house. Haven features a low profile with elongated lines, while sinuous concave patterns run across the superstructure, reflecting the movement of waves when the sun is in the right position.

“Haven feels very different from many other yachts; she has a practical and functional design that places great emphasis on outdoor living. Thanks to an interplay of light and glazing, all interior spaces are well connected with the outdoors. The yacht’s contemporary interior was created by the British studio RWD, and features natural materials and asymmetrical shapes with a dynamic layout. Our team went on a journey with the owners and their family to create a distinct design vocabulary, with subtly crafted details that create a playful and timeless interior,”

says Mattia Mazzucchi, head of interiors at RWD.

Haven has a length overall (LOA) of 82 metres and a beam of 12.5 metres. Highlights of the tri-deck superyacht include a 300-square-metre sun deck with a 2.5-metre ceiling height and moveable windbreak panels, and a generous beach club with single-step sea terraces.

“Kees de Keizer and his team, who oversaw the build on behalf of the owner, and RWD, were exceptional partners throughout the construction of Haven, and the relationships they forged with our employees are incredibly robust.”

sayd Peter Lürßen

The successful launch comes after a brand new superyacht crashed through the door of Lürssen’s dry dock in Bremen in December 2023. One employee was injured in the incident, which triggered a large-scale response involving emergency teams, including a helicopter, water rescue and fire brigade units.

🤝Riva and design studio Officina Italiana Design have renewed their exclusive collaboration contract for five more years.

The agreement, signed at a ceremony attended by Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi and Officina Italiana Design founding partners Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, consolidates a storied partnership that first began in 1994.

The new contract, which runs until 2030, was signed at Riva’s Sarnico shipyard, once used by Carlo Riva himself.

“Officina Italiana Design is a renaissance atelier, characterised by an outstanding level of innovation, that has discovered the formula for timeless elegance. Here at Sarnico, where it all started, we’ve signed an exclusive agreement that will drive the creation of amazing ‘made in Italy’ boats featuring unrivalled care, style and design. 2030 is a magnificent horizon of beauty and research that Riva’s masterpieces of tomorrow already have in their sights.”

says Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi

“It’s a partnership we’re particularly proud of, and the five-year period is also important, because it allows us to pursue a major development plan in which we’ll surely face some exciting new challenges”

says Officina Italiana Design chief designer, Mauro Micheli.

🎵 Coldplay will press its latest LP using recycled river plastic, intercepted by The Ocean Cleanup from Rio Las Vacas in Guatemala.

The global band has confirmed that a limited Notebook Edition LP release of the band’s album Moon Music will be manufactured using reclaimed plastic.

The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to rid the oceans of plastic. To achieve this, the non-profit operates a dual strategy: cleaning up legacy plastic in the oceans and deploying Interceptors to capture trash in rivers and stop it from entering the oceans.

This first collaborative product is the latest step in Coldplay’s support for the global non-profit.

Coldplay’s Notebook Edition LP is an example of the product partnerships The Ocean Cleanup creates to give this plastic a new life in sustainable and durable products, ensuring the plastic never re-enters the marine environment.

The Ocean Cleanup project deployed its trash-collecting Interceptor 006 in the Rio Las Vacas in 2023 to prevent plastic emissions into the Gulf of Honduras. The large quantities of plastic collected have now been sorted, blended, tested and used to manufacture Coldplay’s limited edition physical release.

The final product consists of 70 per cent river plastic intercepted by The Ocean Cleanup and 30 per cent recycled waste plastic bottles from other sources.

The successful production of the Notebook Edition LP using intercepted river plastic marks an exciting new phase in Coldplay’s support for The Ocean Cleanup. Coldplay provides financial support for the non-profit’s cleaning operations, sponsors Interceptor 005 in the Klang River, Malaysia and shares the Ocean Cleanup’s mission with millions of their fans during its Music of the Spheres tour.

Coldplay and The Ocean Cleanup collaborated closely during the intensive testing and quality control process alongside processing and manufacturing partners Biosfera GT, Compuestos y Derivados S.A., Morssinkhof and Sonopress.

“Coldplay is an incredible partner for us, and I’m thrilled that our plastic catch has helped bring Moon Music to life. Ensuring the plastic we catch never re-enters the marine environment is essential to our mission, and I’m excited to see how we’ll continue innovating with Coldplay and our other partners to rid the oceans of plastic together.”

said Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup.
