Boeing Announces $1 Billion Expansion in South Carolina
Boeing has unveiled plans to significantly expand its operations in South Carolina, committing $1 billion to infrastructure enhancements and the creation of 500 new jobs over the next five years. This ambitious investment underscores Boeing’s confidence in its South Carolina facilities as a critical hub to produce its flagship 787 Dreamliner.
Boeing South Carolina (BSC), established in 2009, has been the home of full-cycle production for the 787 Dreamliner family for over a decade. Currently, the company employs more than 7,800 people across its airports in North Charleston, and Orangeburg campuses.
To meet rising market demand and support increasing production targets for the 787 Dreamliner, Boeing plans to expand its two North Charleston campuses. The company is preparing for production rates to ramp up to 10 aeroplanes per month by 2026, with room for further increases in the future.
Scott Stocker, Vice President and General Manager of the 787 Program and BSC Plant Chief, highlighted the significance of this expansion. “Since Boeing South Carolina was established in 2009, we have achieved many important milestones, including consolidating 787 Dreamliner production in the state. I am excited about this next phase of growth, made possible by our incredible teammates and the trust our customers have in our aeroplanes,” he said.
