  • Firmness: Aim for a Goldilocks grip—not too limp (you’re not handing over a dead fish) and definitely not bone-crushing. A balanced handshake exudes confidence.
  • Eye Contact: Lock eyes briefly during the handshake. It signals sincerity and establishes trust.
  • Palm Position: Keep your palm vertical, neither facing up (submissive) nor down (domineering). Imagine you’re holding a delicate object.

2. Mirroring: The Subtle Bond Builder

Ever notice how people who connect well seem to move in sync? That’s mirroring—a powerful technique. When done right, it creates rapport:

  • Posture and Gestures: Subtly mimic the other person’s posture and gestures. If they lean forward, do the same. If they nod, follow suit. It shows you’re attuned to their wavelength.
  • Timing: Don’t be obvious; mirror with finesse. It’s about building rapport, not becoming a human mirror ball.
