BOOT HILL!

BOOT HILL!

Look closely at the boots in this picture. What is different about them? If you said neither a right or left boot you are correct. These boots were made around 1826 and are typical of the foot ware of that time. It was not until about 1904 that shoes were made in right and left shapes. You had to "Break Them In" to the shape of your feet up until that time. It was an unpleasant process that could take two weeks to a month before they became comfortable.

Now to the title of this story: BOOT HILL! If you have watched many western  cowboy movies it may have come to your attention that most of the cemetery's go by that name. Why? The cowboys frequently requested that they be buried with their BOOTS ON. Apparently they did not want to go into the afterlife and break in another pair of boots when the ones they have are finally comfortable.

I always thought that dying with your boots on meant NOT dying in bed of an illness.
