Boundaries

Boundaries

Sometimes people may ask you questions that you don’t want to answer. Such as, “how much money do you make?” or “what is your net worth?” or “How much life insurance do you have?” It is important to have boundaries and to know what you are comfortable sharing, especially when it comes to money.

The first thing generally to do is to lower the boundaries with yourself. To know yourself and to know your money. We do not get messages to save money and invest. There is a huge lack of financial literacy. There are not enough classes on financial literacy. Generally, our parents didn’t talk to us about money. Some put up a big boundary that we know nothing about money and that it is complicated and overwhelming and not fun. So, what can you do about it? Here are a few boundaries you can set for yourself;

  1. Take a true assessment of where you are at with your long-term financial plan and your day to day finances.
  2. Get a budget in place. Be honest with yourself of what you truly spend. You can go to www.prosperwell.com and find out budget worksheet under Resources.
  3. Take your credit card and put it in a glass of water and put it into the freezer. This will help you set the boundary with yourself to help you curb your spending.

These boundaries can be practical expectations you can set with yourself and with others. Then once you know yourself, it is important to set your boundaries so that you keep what is private, private. But where do you draw the line? In today’s environment where information is so readily available on social media, the internet, apps, etc. It is knowing yourself. Knowing your worth. So set your boundaries with yourself and your money so you can get where you want to go.

When I ask for a “money date “ , I get stood up 🤷🏻♂️
