The Fontenay
Having finally opened its doors in 2018, The Fontenay is a bold new addition to the west bank of Hamburg’s famous Alster Lake. Designed by local architect Jan Störmer, the contemporary structure challenges the neighbourhood’s 19th-century facade with a curvaceous design made up of three interlocking circles placed around a courtyard – allowing for every one of 131 rooms and suites to have a balcony and an outward facing view. Bedroom interiors come courtesy of Berlin-based designer Christian Meinert, who has created a tranquil setting with natural beige tones, subtle blues and original artworks by Peruvian painter Antonio Máro. There are two in-house restaurants and a bar that offers 360-degree views from its terrace, but it's the vast spa that steals the show thanks to its spectacular rooftop infinity pool and sun terrace.

Fraser Suites
Set within a listed historic building that once housed the headquarters of Hamburg's tax authority, Fraser Suites is another curvaceous new opening. Dating back to 1910, the standalone building stands out from the offset while an elegant red brick façade and soaring Corinthian columns that frame the grand entrance further add to its visual appeal. A marble-clad lobby, restored features and Art Deco accents continue the glamorous aesthetics inside. The spacious rooms and suites are dressed in a regal blue and gold colour palette and all of them come fitted with work desks and king size beds while some feature separate living spaces and kitchenettes. In The Dining Room, guests can enjoy refined classics in an upscale 1920s-inspired setting and there's also a vintage bar and peaceful library on site.
(Opened September 2019)
Tortue Hamburg
The newly opened Tortue Hamburg has transformed a landmark building that was once home to the Ministry of Urban Development into an image-led boutique hotel. The imposing red brick exterior with intricate detailing and symmetric arched windows makes for a visually appealing first impression while the restored interiors see historic pillars and original frescoes beautifully complemented with customised furnishings, rich upholstery and bold artworks. The hotel's dining options are exceptional with two in-house restaurants – the pan-Asian Jin Gui and the handsome brasserie – boasting upscale interiors and charming courtyards terraces while three individual bars means there's no shortage of options for a tipple or two.
(Opened June 2018)
Courtyard by Marriott Hamburg City
Open since November, Courtyard by Marriott Hamburg City is the second Hamburg property from the brand. While the inaugural opening sits close to the airport, this new addition is located in the heart of the city near to the central business district and the train station. The modern design pays homage to Hamburg with Esther Haase's striking photographs in the lobby and eye-catching headboards that illustrate the city's waterways in the guest rooms. On-site facilities include a seasonal German restaurant, a fitness centre and a Finnish sauna.

PierDrei Hotel HafenCity Hamburg
With everything from destination restaurants to private cinema rooms, hotels all over the world are striving to offer guests more than just a bed for the night, and the brand-new PierDrei Hotel HafenCity Hamburg has joined in on the action with its very own cinema, theatre, roof garden and even a climbing wall and caravan camping area. The Racker Room, a specially designed area for children and young people, has table football, a PlayStation and a fairy-tale cave while the grown-ups can make use of the bars found in the lobby and on the roof. The classic camper vans offer an alternative accommodation option, but the more traditional guest rooms are equally enticing with sophisticated yet youthful interiors and high-end technology.

GINN Hotel Hamburg Elbspeicher
The inaugural opening of the new GINN hotel brand, GINN Hotel Hamburg Elbspeicher occupies the top floors of a historic harbourside building. Exposed brickwork, wood and steel furnishings, and sleek black and grey walls create a trendy loft-style design in the guest rooms while the top floor – where the reception, restaurant and bar can be found – is bathed in natural light and offers fantastic views across the harbour. There's also a wraparound terrace for al fresco drinking and dining as well as on-site business and meeting facilities.
(Opened March 2019)
The Niu Keg
The first Niu hotel to be opened by Novum in Hamburg – the location of the group's headquarters – The Niu Keg launched last spring. Niu stands for native, inspiring and unique, and the new opening sticks to the brand's ethos with a name and design inspired by Hamburg's maritime history and brewery era. Mooring lights and cabin tables reference the maritime links while Hamburg street artist Rebelzer contributes a contemporary urban touch with playful wall murals and artworks. All of the 116 guest rooms come with work stations and high-tech media and other on-site facilities include a tech-filled living room and co-working space, and a 24-hour bar serving drinks and snacks.
(Opened April 2019)
Ruby Lotti Hotel Hamburg
Housed in a former publishing house, the image conscious Ruby Lotti Hotel Hamburg pays homage to its journalism roots with subtle design nods including reporter hats and vintage typewriters. Further stylish elements include cherry wood wall panelling and retro furniture in the rooms and eclectic artworks and brass detailing in the bar. High-quality soundproofing, blackout blinds and open glass rain showers up the comfort factor while Marshall speakers, superfast WiFi and flat screen TVs are some of the in-room technology. The café serves a breakfast buffet and a range of light snacks, and guests can rent one of the hotel's bikes and guitars during their stay.
