Brazil on top of the list for planned investments and profitability among Swedish companies in the world

Yesterday, the results of the #Global Business Climate Survey 2023, conducted jointly by Business Sweden , the Swedish Chambers of Commerce and Sweden’s embassies and consulates around the world, were presented.

Globally, almost 50% of the Swedish companies plan to increase their investments in the next 12 months. From a regional perspective, the Americas have the largest investment share while from a market perspective, Brazil tops the list for planned future investments, with more than 60% of the companies reporting plans to increase investments. The Americas region had the highest share of companies reporting profitability. Looking at individual markets, Brazil reported the highest percentage of profitable Swedish companies.

In general, independently of company size, age and sector, Swedish companies believe that Brand Sweden contributes much or very much to their businesses. Brazil was among those markets that revealed the highest share of respondents confirming that their Sweden’s brand identity contributes to their success.

Work culture together with access to qualified service providers, specialists and suppliers are conditions were Swedish companies rank Brazil high. They also responded that they place a high emphasis on environmental performance.

Trade between Brazil and Sweden has boomed since the pandemic. Brazil increased its exports to Sweden by 53% in 2022 compared to 2021, while Sweden increased its exports to Brazil by 64% during the same period. However, almost 4 in 10 Swedish companies say that customs duty levels and procedures represent trade barriers.

That’s why Sweden is such a strong supporter of an agreement on trade between EU and the Mercosur countries. Such an agreement would liberalize more than 90% of all existing import duties. It will increase bilateral trade and investment, and lower tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, among other through creating more stable and predictable rules for trade and investment. The agreement represents a win-win for both the EU and Mercosur, creating opportunities for growth, jobs and sustainable development on both sides.

Brazil came out strong in the global comparison, this for many parts of the report. We currently also see an increased interest among Swedish companies previously not present in Brazil to enter the market. This part of the world will play an important role going forward for the green transition and with that also provide good business opportunities for Swedish companies, none the least in the mining, energy and transport sector. Team Sweden is here to support you! (the full report can be found here: www.business-sweden.com
