Breaking the Cycle: It's Time for Authenticity in Wellbeing Leadership

Breaking the Cycle: It's Time for Authenticity in Wellbeing Leadership

In the digital age, where 'likes' and 'clicks' often define success, I've noticed a concerning trend among wellbeing and leadership influencers.

The same catchphrases, the same mottos, the same advice, reproduced time and again in a relentless pursuit of online engagement.

But what does this repetition truly contribute to our collective wellbeing and leadership discourse?

Repetition in advertising and marketing can be effective for establishing familiarity and brand recall.

However, when it comes to thought leadership, especially in the wellbeing space, this practice can lead to stagnation and a lack of fresh perspectives. We're not selling products; we're fostering growth, change, and improvement.

The overuse of certain words and phrases can dilute their meaning and impact. Phrases like "I think", "In all honesty", and "I'll try" have become so commonplace that they often go unnoticed. But these words matter.

They shape our thoughts, our actions, and our interactions with others.True thought leadership is about pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo, and sparking meaningful conversations. It's about authenticity, originality, and providing value that audiences can't find elsewhere. It's not about regurgitating what's already been said; it's about contributing something new and valuable to the conversation.

So, to my fellow influencers, I challenge you:

Let's break the cycle of content reproduction. Let's strive for authenticity and originality in our messages. Let's remember the KISS principle - Keep It Simple, Stupid.

In the realm of wellbeing, this means focusing on the fundamental principles rooted in neuroscience: resilience, outlook, awareness, and generosity. These are the basics we need to get right. By doing so, we can provide meaningful, effective guidance that truly fosters growth, change, and improvement. Let's be the leaders who don't just add to the noise, but who contribute valuable insights and promote genuine wellbeing.
