Breathe, breathe in the air.
For the past decade, my life has been fast-moving and ever-changing as I tirelessly build my business from the ground up. One of the few things that have remained the same all this time, is my morning routine. Every day without fail I wake up at 6am, go to the gym, and check the air pollution levels. What started as routine to help me prepare for the day to come has become much bigger than that.
To many, Hong Kong’s air quality is synonymous with China’s – and within reason, given our proximity. But many years of incessantly checking the AQI has taught me otherwise. Not only is Hong Kong great for the usual wine and dine, but also the air quality. Meals on a terrace, runs by the promenade, and breath-taking hikes (both literally and figuratively) are all some of the best things about the city. Every morning, I’m greeted with a green square (symbolizing low pollution levels) and since 2013, air pollution levels here have only gone down – how many mega cities can say that?
Anyone who knows me, knows I’m an avid traveller – the past couple months has been the longest time I’ve ever stayed still within a city. But there’s no other place I’d rather be stuck in than Hong Kong.
This may be a unique approach to a love letter to Hong Kong, but there is nothing too small or too insignificant to love when it comes to My Hong Kong. And although the recent cleanliness of the air may be attributed to something less positive given the travel lockdown, I choose to see the good and just breathe, breathe in the air.
Couldn't agree more. Thank you Girish.
