No BS Career Advice: October 20, 2024

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

We're home! It has been a hard few weeks and we;re home!

We had to flush water through the house pipes. We don't have drinking water yet or our standard Internet (I have a Starlink and set up Internet access with it). We have power again. It has been hard to get things locally but we returned from New Jersey and a side trip to Vermont to see our son, before doing the long drive home (increased to 14 hours because roads from Tennessee to Asheville don't exist anymore and won't for at least a year).

I'm back to work and want to help more people find work. That starts with Search.Community where I have video courses, books and guides to help you find work. From there, I backstop that information with coaching and guidance to help you,

At JobSearch.Community, I have the following available free:

"Diagnosing Your Job Search Problems" will explain where your job search is breaking down.

"Get Ready for the Job Jungle" explains steps to take to launch or improve your job search.

"How to Craft a Compelling Elevator Pitch" is a video that will explain how to do exactly that so you don't feel badly offering yours to someone.

"Prove Your Worth Then Negotiate" will help you avoid getting trapped into an answer about the salary you're looking for. .and more

"No BS Resume Advice" is not an all-inclusive guide to writing your resume. It is a simple baseline guide for your resume.

25 Job Interview Questions and Answers will help you answer

25 Tough Interview Questions.

After reading the posts about Jeff's personal challenges with Hurricane Helene, I am happy to learn that he and his family are safe and well, and that they have a bright path forward. Additionally, I am grateful to Jeff for sharing his personal story. While the details and tasks needed to recover from a natural disaster are different than recovering from a job loss, we can use his story as an example that we can overcome a challenge and successfully move forward. Use his story as a guide for overcoming the challenge of a job loss. Jeff didn't face this challenge alone, and a job seeker shouldn't either. What we can take from Jeff's story are: * Get clarity on the impacts of a job loss.  * Identify the (many) steps needed to mitigate issues and to start moving forward. * Do what is needed to complete those steps and achieve the next wonderful position. Take advantage of available resources (advice, links, articles, meetings, connections, strategy sessions, tools, etc.) that Jeff and others offer anyone in a job search. There are a lot of helpers and you don't need to tackle your job search alone. Thanks Jeff!

So glad you're home safe; wishing you a speedy and smooth restoration to normalcy.
