The Build Up!

The Build Up!

Sometimes, it doesn’t take much to move the needle.

You take one small step. Then another. And suddenly, six months has passed – and you’ve hit the road you long dreamed of travelling.

Building a career takes time. And many of us don’t like waiting! But if you focus on making one small change every week – or even every month – you’ll be well and truly ready when the career gods present you with your moment of opportunity.

This year, I’ve really embraced that mantra. I made a series of small changes within the business, which paved the way for one major development: expanding Building Environs Recruitment into southeast Queensland.

Another small change I’ve made recently? Finetuning The Build Up.

I hope you enjoy the new look and format. Hopefully, it gives you a small spark of inspiration to take the next step in your career. Or ideas for how to attract the next superstar to your team – so you can deliver projects that exceed expectations.

 Q&A with Martin

What small signs might indicate it’s time to make a career shift?

Sometimes, you get a strong gut feeling that you’ve reached the end of the road in a certain role or with your current employer.

But beyond feelings, there are some concrete signs that it’s time to make a change, like:

  • Your managers stifle any suggestions you make to innovate or improve word culture or processes
  • Your growth has stalled, and there are no development opportunities on offer now – or anytime soon
  • The market has shifted, and a lack of new projects coming into your business, is starting to concern you, as project numbers decrease, chances of redundancy increase!

If any of these resonate with you, it might be time to call a recruiter who can help you find your next role.
