The Build Up – Melbourne’s Monthly Construction & Property Update
As we head into the final stretch of 2024, and with the big man in red gearing up to slide down the chimney, we can all start to look forward to a well-deserved break after yet another chaotic year! The recruitment market is still humming along, with green shoots of opportunity popping up across various sectors. Construction and property remain a bit hit-or-miss, but with some government nudging, there’s hope on the horizon as they're trying to ease the housing supply crunch – albeit, there is a sense from private Developers that the efforts to increase housing supply come with the caveat of a tax boost for the State Government’s coffers, at their expense (which of course will be pushed back to the consumers to get projects to stack up)…...It’s not perfect, but hey, we’ll take the wins where we can!
On another note, AI-written cover letters have been sneaking into the recruitment scene. While they may look polished, they often sound eerily similar to one another—buzzword-filled and lacking that authentic touch. So, for those applying (and hiring), remember: a human-written, spell-checked cover letter stands out more than you think! Let’s not let AI take over the charm of a good, old-fashioned résumé. Keep it real!

The Hidden Costs of Chasing the Money
There’s been a lot of noise on social media lately, debating whether Gen Z is wrong for changing jobs early and often, all in pursuit of higher pay. Some say this is the natural way of the world now—why shouldn’t they be chasing the coin? After all, we all work for money, right? Whether it was your first part-time gig in a coffee shop, or like me, washing dishes and waiting tables, the main incentive has always been financial. So, why the uproar now?
